Thank You!!!

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to pop in quickly tonight to say THANK YOU so much for your sweet comments after my hair tutorial.  Really.  You have no idea how much better you all made me feel!  It’s so intimidating putting yourself out there like that.  And I know that I put myself out there daily with this blog because it’s all about my life and my family, but actually filming yourself takes it to a whole new level!  Your comments were so kind and encouraging.  And funny!  I was cracking up that so many of you thought I would have a southern accent!  Especially since I was born and raised in Utah and now live in San Diego!  :)  But I did teach school in Virginia for three years while Kenny went to law school at UVA. And while I was there I did perfect my “y’all” so technically, we can call me a southerner.  ;)  It was also making me laugh that so many of you were saying I sounded more “mature” than you thought I would.  What!?  Do I not come across like the epitome of wisdom and maturity on this blog!  ;)  I told one of my friends people were commenting that I sounded mature and she laughed out loud and said I need to do another video.  Nice!  Guess she doesn’t think I’m the epitome of wisdom and maturity either!  I actually am more bubbly in ‘real life’ but like I said in my comments – doing this video made me so nervous that I switched over into ultra serious mode to get through it.  I’m tricky like that.  And maybe I will have to attempt another vlog some time that is less instructional and more fun.  Several of you gave me great ideas for some!  But for now, I am just breathing a sigh of relief that I made it through that first one and you aren’t all abandoning me!  And I’m thrilled that my tutorial actually helped some of you.  That seriously makes me so happy.  My mom (and faithful blog reader) called me and said “Wow!  You are getting so many comments on this post!  Almost as many as when you almost died!”  And then we both had a good laugh that almost dying and a hair tutorial are about on the same playing field in blog land.  :)  (I totally get it.  Hair is important stuff.)  Again, thank you so much.  I have a lot to be grateful for this year and my blog readers/friends are at the top of my list.
So is everyone excited for Thanksgiving!?  My kids are out of school all week and our party has officially started!  Grandparents are around to watch the kids so Kenny and I took advantage and declared tonight a date night.  We got the kids in bed, picked up sandwiches (which we scarfed down in the car) and made it in time for a late night showing of Breaking Dawn (which Kenny affectionately calls Breaking Wind/Passing Gas – he really is too much for me sometimes).  It was SO good!  There was hardly anyone in the theatre (the beauty of going to a late movie on a Monday night) so I was able to test out three different seats until I found our perfect viewing spot.  I have to say that Breaking Dawn was my least favorite of the Twilight books.  I was SO mad when Bella got pregnant so fast.  I just wanted her to be young and in love with Edward forever.  Frolicking in the meadow and breaking headboards for years and years.  Not saddled down with a baby the second after they got married.  I know all too well what a baby does to the romance and I wanted to continue to live vicariously through Bella.  Not have her join my world of diapers and sippy cups.  And then when Jacob imprinted!  On Bella and Edward’s BABY!  Hello sick and twisted.  I was NOT impressed.  But, the movie was good and I’m so smitten by the characters that I couldn’t stay mad at them for long.
Anyway – it’s late and I’m rambling again, aren’t I?  I need to go to bed.  But I’ll be back soon!  With some fun Thanksgiving ideas!  Thanks again everyone.  Thanks for the comments.  Thanks for your support.  Thanks for reading.
Over and out.
:)
xoxo, Erin

  1. Ha ha Erin! You literally make me laugh out loud!!!
I agree totally with your Twilight comments!! I was not happy with the imprinting when I was reading it in the book, but somehow they pull it off better in the movie, Now we have to wait another year to see the end of it!!! Keep blogging, I have a massive smile on my face when reading your posts. (& Im all the way on the other side of the world – Australia) Wish we had something equivilent to Thanksgiving here… We are just hanging out for Xmas here!

  2. I love your blog – I usually laugh out loud when reading … even though I will never have your beautiful hair! Have a wonderful week with your family. We are leaving for San Diego in the morning … so excited!

  3. I curled my hair today Erin. Just thought you should know. HA HA. I went to bed with wet hair and woke up to a mess so I combed it out and then went to town with the curling iron. My hair is like yours. So, you can only imagine what I woke up to. I had a lot to tame this morning. It made me feel a little better since I haven’t been feeling my best this week. When life gets ya down curl your hair! :-) I spent way to much time because of the fro and skipped breakfast and then I tore my pants. All before work. BREATHE! 123 Breathe

  4. I think I probably told you a hundred times about my feelings for Breaking Dawn and I seriously have ZERO desire to see the movie.

But kudos to Kenny for taking you!!

And kudos to Butch for taking me to see Footloose last weekend. Loved it!!!

Are you ready to cook for Thanksgiving? Got your apron on? Rolling out the pie crust now?
Psh….didn’t think so. Give your mom a hug for me. :)

  5. I saw Breaking Dawn with my girlfriend on Sunday! I liked it too, and agree that the imprinting comes off better in the movie. I’m Team Jacob. I was also very excited to see ‘The Hunger Games’ preview. Now THAT I am excited to see. (I partly prefer this series because the main character ends up with who I wanted!)

  6. How funny! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought, for some odd reason, you might have a bit of a southern accent.

I didn’t get a chance to comment, but really did enjoy your hair tutorial. Thanks, Erin!

  7. Yeah, no way I’d ever get my hubby to Breaking Dawn….although he’s the king of sarcasm, so it sounds like he & Kenny would get along just fine, haha! I got Saturday afternoon to myself (ahh bliss!) & went to see it….totally loved it, very well done. Will probably see it again over Thanksgiving with my sis-in-laws & nieces. Obsessed much? Ha! That’s how we roll when it comes to Twilight :)

Very excited for Thanksgiving around here! Last day of school today, finished off with a class lunch party for my first grader. My house smells awesome from all the baking going on :) As an Aussie, Thanksgiving is my most favorite adopted tradition….food & family, love it!

    Have a lovely day, Erin!

PS – I bought one of those ruffled scarves from Nordstrom too! It’s so soft, I love it….definitely need another for Christmas :)

  8. I have not yet commented on the vlog post but I did try out your technique today and it went so much faster! I had to keep reminding myself to unroll the curling iron because I’m used to holding it forever.

Anyhow, I had a genius idea for you…..
You know how people send Becky Higgins photos of themselves with their project life box? You should have us send in pictures of ourselves with our hair curled a la Erin! Rachel

  9. Hi Erin!

Okay, I just have to ask: did you read the Twilight books before seeing the movies? Just from some of your comments I can’t help but to think that you didn’t. (if I’m wrong, I apologize for my assumption!) I can’t even imagine watching the movies without knowing all the “behind the scenes” to it all. I’m a huge fan of the books, and I will say that I’ve loved all of the movies because they follow the books so well. They are very precise with the book-to-movie adaptation. Which is why a lot of it doesn’t make sense to those who have not read the books, because you can’t possibly know what the characters are “thinking” that lead them up to do whatever it is that they’ve done, or said. Yes, I can imagine it would seem a bit weird, sick and just plain wrong for Jacob to “imprint” on a baby — but in the book it makes perfect sense how that happened. They actually have no “say” on who they imprint on. It just happens. And this is why it was always so hard for Jacob to “quit” Bella, especially after she was carrying the baby. And he had every plan to hate and even kill the baby if Bella were to die, but once they locked eyes…. he couldn’t do it. They locked eyes and instantly he know she was his soulmate. And it’s not a romantic-thing when the person is a baby or a child. The wolf is whatever the person needs him to be: a playmate, a caregiver, a friend, a spouse – whatever stage they are at in their lives. They are soulmates right from the start, and he is her protector, no matter what age they are introduced. I just saw the movie last night and the only thing I didn’t like about this one was the wolves “voices” when they talked to each other. In the books, they communicate telepathically, they hear each other’s voices the same way as they speak when they are human. But in the movie they made their voices altered, sounding like robots or something. Ugh. I didn’t like that at all and think they should have kept their voices the same. Ah well. Other than that, I think it followed the book excellently. I can’t wait to see the final movie :)

Yea, I know. I’m waaaay to into Twilight. You’d think I was a teenager or something! I won’t even tell you how many times I’ve read the books…

Oh, by the way, the other night I had a dream that I did MY hair like yours! It must have been the tutorial, LOL. In reality my hair would never hold a curl like yours, it’s just way too thin and straight, but in my dream it did! And I looked pretty good! Ah, dreams can be fun :)

    Happy Thanksgiving

  10. Hi Katrina!

I LOVED the books! Of course I read them! I’m a total Twilight nut like you! :) The fourth book was my least favorite of the series. I got the whole imprinting thing, but didn’t like it. But I totally agree with you on the wolves talking to each other! They made that part so cheesy in the movie! Kind of like in the first movie when Edward was flying all around in the trees and showing Bella his skin in the sun – I liked that part in the book, but it was cheesy in the movie too. But I agree that they did do a really good job with this movie! I liked it way more than the book. :)

Happy Turkey day to you too!

  11. Hi Erin. You have to look at my blog today for my thanksgiving post. My daughter did a really cute footprint and hand print too!

  12. I wanted to let you know that I am a daily follower, although I never normally comment. (I have 2 toddlers and work full time, so time is crunched! ha!) However, I need to tell you that last Saturday night my husband and I went on a date and I did my hair like you showed in the video. Boy did he like it!! I love how you curl away from the face. It gives me a totally different look with my same old boring straight hair! Thanks SO much for sharing! My hair will never be as beautiful as yours though! Have a great Thanksgiving!!

  13. So it’s official, I need to leave a comment. I’m usually more of a blog stalker, not a commenter. So I do have to tell you how awesome your hair post is (my hair thanks you so much and I definitely thank you for breaking me of my 3 straight years of flat ironing only streak).

Here’s the random part. I actually knew you back in SG. You used to work at Zion’s Bank there next to Lin’s and I used to do all my banking there. I actually went to SCHS with your sister (doubt she’d remember me, I was younger and definitely wasn’t in her group — though we did share a room on a language trip to BYU). My maiden name was Jen Drake. I found your blog through Gretchen Gubler’s family blog and have fallen in love with your cute ideas (organization inspiration, anyone?).

So, there you have it. Now I’m no longer a silent random number on your blog ticker. Keep it up with the wonderful ideas! Especially fashion. I love that you have three kids and you still do your hair, organize things, and wear cute clothes. That’s definitely something I need! Thanks!
