Displaying Past Santa Pictures

displaying-past-santa-pictures
Is tomorrow already Wednesday!?  Oh man.  It’s December.  Are you feeling it?  Overwhelmed much?  :)  My calendar makes me tired.  Mostly good stuff!  Just a lot of it.  I’m grateful I got an earlier start this year on Christmas preparation although I still feel like there is so much to do.  I’ve been trying to take some pictures of my Christmas decor and can’t seem to keep the house clean long enough to make it happen!  Ha!  I did get a few today before everything exploded on my kitchen counters.  Hopefully I can get the rest taken tomorrow, but with the way this month is going so far I’m not holding my breath!

Anyway!  I wanted to quickly share with you a fun, simple way to display all of those past pictures of your kiddos sitting on Santa’s lap!

tape-on-pictures
This was so easy.  I just put some tape on the back of each picture.

Then used painters tape to hold a roll of Burlap on my door.  This is the door to our closet under the stairs.  It’s across from our family room so it is seen a lot.

Perfect place to display these treasured Christmas photos!  So far the tape is holding up great.  I only had one problem last week when it rained for a few days.  It was humid so a couple of them fell off.

In fact, you can tell in this picture one is missing from the top.  It fell off and I set it somewhere so I wouldn’t lose it and now I can’t remember where I put it.  Don’t you hate that!?  It was Ellie’s first picture with Santa (she was almost two) and she was crying and the only way she would sit on Santa’s lap is if I sat on it with her.  I was pregnant with Addison at the time and I swear I look bigger than Santa in that photo.  Come to think of it, maybe I put it in a “mysteriously safe” place on purpose… ha!  :)

Close up.  These pictures really document how much my babies are growing and changing each year.  I love having them displayed.  They make me so happy every time I walk down the hall and see them.  Special memories with each photo.  Like the year I bribed Addison to get on Santa’s lap by giving her a bagel and in the photo she is screaming with a big chunk of bread in her open mouth.
Ahh..  good times.  Tis the season!  :)

snowflake-on-door
I put a snowflake ornament on the door and called it done!  The whole thing took 15 minutes.

If you don’t have Santa pictures to display this would also work to display past family Christmas pictures, or cards that come in the mail.  There is something special this time of year about decorating with past pictures.  It really brings the spirit of the season into your home.  Plus the kids love it too.

Because it’s a tradition, I’m once again sharing my all time favorite Santa picture from my past.  That’s me on the right and my sister on the left circa 1980.

CLASSIC.  Like I said, tis the season!

Hope you’re enjoying it so far.  :)

xoxo, Erin

  1. I was just wondering today what I was going to do with all the Christmas cards that we got. I am done with taping them to the door. They seem to fall off. I think I will double or triple the burlap and hang my cards on them. Thanks for the inspiration. The humidity was bad last week, It wasn’t really a cold rain was it?

I have watched your babies grow. Those pictures are precious. I will never tire of the one of you and your sister..Precious memories.

    1. Thank you Cathy! You are so sweet. I’m tired of taping my Christmas cards to the door too! Trying to come up with a new way to hang them. Someone said they just did this idea and used baby pins to hold the pics.. that might work better than tape. Especially on our humid days! xo

  2. Brill idea.:)

I’m going to do this with some family pix. It’s a bit too late to do it this year but a project that I can work on in the new year.

My niece was really scared of Father Christmas & used to hide from him!

    1. Thanks Julie! I think most kids are initially scared of Santa! Can’t blame them. They don’t know why in the world they are being handed over to a strange looking guy in a red suit. :)

  3. Hi Erin!
Another great idea!! I love how all of your holiday decorating ideas look so beautiful but are so easy to do! I do have a question for you if you don’t mind sharing. :). Could you please tell me the width of the trim around your closet door? It’s exactly what I’m looking for!! Something straight and simple. And is the top piece slightly wider or is it all the same width? Thank you so so much!! Love your beautiful home!
    Kim

    1. Thank you Kim! That is such a sweet thing to say. I really appreciate it! Ok – I just measured our trim around the door. It’s 5 inches on the sides and the top, but then the top has that extra additional trim that sticks out – it’s an inch – so the total for the top is 6 inches. Hope that helps!

  4. Perfect…did this with our Santa pics right after reading your post! :) Our pictures wouldn’t stay on the burlap with tape, so I used some little baby clothespins instead.

  5. Oh, aren’t these just the best memories? Our son never did like sitting on Santa’s lap. When he was really little, he would literally do the Koala-cling to me and could not be pride away — little people are stronger than you think! I think that is such a fun way to display those prized photos, Erin!

    1. Thank you Carol! Oh I so know the “Koala” move! Ha! Little people are the best aren’t they!? And yes – a lot stronger than we give them credit for! :)
