Nothing says summer like a messy pantry! Anyone else feel the same? Summer is definitely the time that we let things go a little around my house and it’s all part of the fun. I love taking a break from rigid schedules and enjoying lots of unstructured down time. I can be such a chill and relaxed mom! For a little while. :) Then something kind of snaps inside me and I start craving order! When I crave order, but we still have a month of summer to go I tend to turn to spots in my house that need attention. My pantry was definitely that spot! We have totally let it go the past few months.
Stuff all over the counter, too many packages, empty containers, torn labels. It was time to do something about this hot mess. I dedicated my morning to giving our pantry a little summer re-fresh.
Quick shot of the “during.” I basically pulled everything out! Food was all over my kitchen counters and my serving dishes filled up the dining room. I categorized everything and then put the red items away with my Christmas dishes. Then I cleaned all of my pantry shelves and drawers, washed containers and then put everything back. Putting everything back is always my favorite part. :) Ready to see the “afters?”
Welcome to my organized (again) pantry! Feeling light and bright and fresh and clean for summer. :)
You might remember I bought these fruit prints months ago from Walmart. LOVE them so much! (If you love them too and they show they are sold out enter your e-mail to get an “in-stock” alert because most items come back in stock.) I knew I wanted these in my pantry.. I have a thing for lemons, we’re obsessed with cuties at my house and the colors are just too much fun. Walmart has a new section in some stores and on-line called “WOW and NOW” that includes fun and trendy home decor items for a steal! So many cute things and they switch them out monthly. I’ll share favorites I already have and love at the end of this post! It’s a great place to look if you want to give a spot in your home a quick re-fresh without spending much.
Most of my serving dishes are white and/or wood so I displayed them on the shelves with my cute summer prints. I love that this looks like a styled shelf when really it’s just items I use daily! Why not make the every day pretty? :)
And that orange print? Sitting on my shelf next to a bowl of cuties of course. :) (Notice the bottom drawer here is full of blow pop suckers. Another sign of summer at our house. Ha.)
It always feels good to get my canisters cleaned out and re-filled. I changed one cereal label to “cereal of the week” for Kenny. The rest of us eat the same cereal but he’s always mixing it up with something new. I tease him that his constant need for change makes it hard for me to label and organize his food so he laughed when he saw the new label. We put up with a lot from each other. ;)
I went through all of the items on my shelves and tossed anything that was expired.
Feels so good to have our pantry clean and organized again!
I forgot to take pics of inside the drawers but they haven’t changed much. Maybe a few different snacks but still mostly popcorn. ;)
Here are a couple more before and afters! Because they’re fun. :)

Oh that was fun, Erin! Love those fruity prints. I hear you on letting go of some things over summer break and then hitting a point where the lack of order really grates. Good for you for getting things back in line. Your refreshed pantry looks so very refreshing! I’ll bet you breathed a deep sigh of relief. I was thinking about going through my pantry for the same reason. Maybe I will do it next week right before trash day. ;) This summer, I’m finding myself trying to hang out with my girls as much as possible so the deep cleaning has taken a bit of a back seat. I giggled at the cereal of the week. Your husband sounds like mine, always wants something different. But then for mine, his something different all too often quickly becomes no longer available in the stores! So he has to find another something different! LOL Hope you have a great rest of your week! Grab some popcorn and enjoy the “fruits” of your labor. :D
Thank you so much Jeanne! Good for you putting your girls first! Deep cleaning can always wait (it never really ends.. right!?). and doing it right before trash day is always a smart idea. So happy you enjoyed the fruit prints! You always make me smile. :) xo
The update looks amazing! The red items looked pretty mixed in, but it looks so much fresher without them. My favourite photo is the one with the empty cannisters and the packages beneath them… that sums up my cupboards and sides at the moment! :)
Thank you so much Lisa! I agree.. I like it better w/o the red! And my cupboards often look like the “before” pictures too.. especially during summer! :) xo
Erin, the update is amazing! I love the light airy colors for summer. Ive been traveling so just catching up on your blog posts. I have a question, when you remove the food from its original box packaging and place in plastic storage bins, how do you know when an item expires? Do you place the date somewhere on the bin?
Loving all your organizational ideas!! I can’t believe Labor Day weekend is coming up!
Hi Denise! Thank you! So happy you like the pantry update! Most of the items I have in containers we eat before they could come close to expiring.. ha. I try to use those containers mostly for the items we go through fast. I do sometimes put a little date sticker label on the back of things like baking soda (baking items that could expire). Enjoy your Labor Day weekend! I agree.. this year is flying by. So happy Fall is coming! :)
I adore your pantry! Would you mind sharing where you got the labeled drawer pulls? I have been searching everywhere for something similar with no luck :(
Thank you Malynda! I got those from Pottery Barn but they don’t make them anymore! Such a bummer! :(
Hi Erin,
I realize this is an older post, but I happen to be remodeling my pantry and I love the look of “open shelves” around the top half, rather than the “boxes” with the vertical supports that are more common. And I LOVE the open corners. Can you tell me about your pantry shelves? What are they made of? Do they have enough support without vertical supports? It looks like they are just sitting on supports along the back. Are they painted? Or what kind of finish do they have on them?
Thank you so much! I get so much inspiration from your blog! :)
Hi Lynette! Thank you so much! My pantry shelves are wood and they are painted a glossy white. And yes.. they are supported by supports along the back.:) I hope that helps!
