Easy Shopping & Summer Dessert

*This post is sponsored by Walmart and affiliate links are used.  All product selections and opinions are my own!
4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

Half way through the week and we are counting down over here!  My kids have this week and next before summer break and this is the week that all the projects are due, tests/finals are being taken, and the Open Houses, events and performances are happening.  We’re on the go!  Next week is the chill “clean your desk, take home your stuff and party” week so things will definitely slow down once we make it to Friday.  Bring it on.. we are so ready for summer.  I can’t wait to have my kids give their lockers a good clean out and call it a school year!

summer groceries (Sunny Side Up)
May is so busy for moms and honestly Walmart’s on-line pick up and delivery has been a life saver for me this month.  We have always ordered some groceries on-line through Walmart to save money (groceries in San Diego are pricey!), but now with their easy pick up and delivery service I’m starting to get so many other items there too.. cleaning products, craft supplies for school projects, yard essentials, arm weights to step up my morning treadmill routine, Ellie’s favorite shampoo/conditioner (she’s obsessed with coconut everything at the moment), summer pool/beach toys for the kids.. they have it all!

I used to be nervous about having someone else pick out my fruit.. ha.  I’m picky and like to choose my own produce but they have a guarantee to pick the freshest items or you can contact customer care for a refund so I’ve been going for it and so far the fruit has been great!  I love that my favorite items (things I order again and again) are saved so that when I go to shop on-line it’s quick and easy.  I just click what I need and done!  (Pick up is always free!  A $35 order minimum and small delivery fee apply for delivery. Pickup and Delivery are available in select markets.)

We had a lot going on last weekend with Addison’s birthday so I ordered some food for the weekend and just swung by Walmart to pick it up.  Then Addison and I made the most delicious dessert for Memorial Day!  My sister made it last year when we all got together for the 4th of July and it was such a hit.  I thought I’d share the recipe because it’s perfect for summer get togethers and of course for the 4th of July!

4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

Isn’t my sister cute!?  She always spoils us on the 4th and makes the most delicious food!

4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

Golden Oreo Layered Pudding Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 family size package of Golden Oreos
  • 2 (3.4 oz) boxes of instant french vanilla pudding mix (you could also use cheesecake!)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 pound strawberries (hulled and quartered)
  • 1 pint blueberries

4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

Add about two rows of Golden Oreos to a ziplock bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

Layer the crushed Oreos on the bottom of a 9×13 inch pan.  Then make the vanilla layer.  (3 different mixtures!)  Beat 8 oz cream cheese in a large bowl until it’s smooth and creamy.  In another large bowl combine 2 packages of instant pudding with 4 cups of milk and whisk for 2 minutes until it’s thick.  Add the pudding and the cream cheese together and mix.  Then in a different bowl (or quickly clean one of the bowls you just used!) add 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, 3/4 cup powered sugar and 1 teaspoon Vanilla.  Beat with electric beaters for a couple of minutes until the cream forms soft peaks.  Then fold the whipped cream into the pudding mixture and stir it all together.

4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

Spread the pudding mixture on top of the crust you made with Oreos.  Then cover this and refrigerate for at least 2 hours!  You can make this up to 12 hours in advance.

4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

After some time in the fridge, add the top layer of Oreos.  (I just used a knife to chop them into quarters and I ended up using more oreos than one row.. just add as many as you want!)

4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

Then top with sliced strawberries and blueberries!  (*Tip – have the Oreos cut in a bag and the fruit cut and washed and ready to go ahead of time so that when you are ready to serve it you can pull it out of the fridge and just sprinkle everything on quickly.)  It’s so easy and delicious!  Feeds a large crowd and is sure to be a hit.  The only downside with this dessert is that the Oreos get soggy after a while so I don’t love it as much for leftovers.  It’s best to serve at a summer BBQ or get together with friends when it will be devoured in one night.. it never lasts long!

4th of July layered pudding dessert (Sunny Side Up)

Have you ever made it before?  Or something similar?  It’s so delicious.  If you try it and love it let me know!

I’m off to Kole’s 5th grade Open House. :)  Enjoy your day!

May Amazon Buys

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I hope you’ve had a nice weekend so far!  We’ve been busy celebrating our sweet 15 year old.  Such a fun few days full of friends and food and shopping and games and pedicures and movies and pool time and Starbucks pink drinks galore!  I’m going to need a weekend to recover from this weekend. :)  I think she felt the love and that was the goal so mission accomplished!  We love our Addison SO much.

I can’t believe it’s the last day in May!  Below are my Amazon purchases for the month.  More of a few old favorites and a few new favorites I’m excited about too.  (I snapped all of these pics with my phone so ignore the poor lighting!)

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{glass jar with flowers/similar crock/faux pink peonies/dish brush}

Such a small thing but I needed a dish scrubber for this sink by the window and found this cute bamboo dish brush.

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I placed it in a decorative bowl and now something so useful doubles as decor.  Bring on the dishes!  Kind of crazy but they aren’t as much of a chore for me with my cute new brush.  Wonder how long that feeling will last. :)

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{reclaimed wood vase/navy shelf vase/similar faux white flowers/liberty banner/navy throw/cordova tray/terracotta bowl/wood chain/made for living book/marble box/

I added a few patriotic touches to the living room!  I love having it up in time to remember and honor everyone who served our country on Memorial Day.  Very similar to last year’s decor with my favorite banner on my mantel, but I added a few new things.  (This gorgeous large tray is on sale today!)

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

My favorite being this decorative wood chain!  I wanted something a little bigger for my terracotta bowl and this is perfect!  I’ve seen very similar decorative chains for a lot more money so I was thrilled when I found this.  It came with some cute smaller beads too!

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{weekly planner pad/daily plan}

Time to refill my weekly planner pad!  I use the weekly pad a lot to organize my blog/IG content.  It helps me to see the entire week on one page.  I also like the habit tracker at the bottom.  “Drink more water” and “put away clothes in closet immediately” seem to be two habits I’m always working on and have yet to nail.  Someday I’ll get there!  The daily plan is great for busy days that need more scheduling.

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

(gold vase/faux peonies/cross hatch/wicker tray/macrame coasters/pink glasses/floral pillow}

I’m THRILLED about these macrame coasters!  Our glasses always sweat (is it a humidity thing!?) and it drives me crazy when water is dripping all over the table.  I have a lot of pretty decorative coasters, but they don’t absorb water on the outside of the cup.  These coasters are not only cute to have out on my coffee table, but they also keep my table from getting wet.  Score!  It’s the little things. :)  (A mad game of Clue was going on behind the scenes in this picture.)

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{collapsible colander}

Meet my new summer obsession!  I LOVE this collapsible colander!  It’s thin and easy to store when you aren’t using it.

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

When you are using it just pull out the handles and push the bottom and wa-la!  A deep colander that makes draining food a breeze.  I especially love it for fruit that I want to wash and cut so it’s ready to eat.

May Amazon Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Done and done.  This is so handy!  Especially for sinks that are large and deep.

A few other Amazon favorites from the month include my favorite mascara, a few travel bags (so excited for upcoming summer trips!), Kenny’s hair gel (he loves Reformer), another set of our favorite sheets (gave them to a friend for her birthday!), the items I mentioned above and the book Effortless.  I’ve been listening to it on Audible.  I loved Greg McKeown’s first book Essentialism (so good if you haven’t already read it!) so I thought I’d give his next book a try now that I’m back to my days of living in my car. :)  I’ll let you know what I think when I’m done!

May. Amazon buys (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1- toiletry travel bag   2- dish brush    3- hair putty

4- effortless   5- maybelline mascara  6- coasters

7- electronic organizer    8- decorative wood bead chain.

9- weekly planner notepad  10- happy birthday banner set

11- kitchen strainer  12- bed sheet set

I’d love to hear about any Amazon items you’re loving!  It’s always fun sharing favorites. :)  Speaking of favorites.. below are a few fun things I found at Pottery Barn that are on sale since I didn’t have time to round them up before.  If you missed my last post I included all of my Memorial Day weekend sale picks from favorite stores.  Everything is marked down through today!  I was so happy to hear that my post was helpful from some of you.

Enjoy your week everyone!  I hope it’s off to a good start. :)

Weekend Sale Favorites!

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Happy Friday!  I hope you had a good week!  I’m so grateful for the long weekend ahead.  We are limping across the finish line this school year.  We still have a week and a half left and without this little break I don’t know if we would make it.  Ha.  We need this long weekend to finish up end of school projects and rest from the craziness!  I also just love Memorial Day.  Such a special time to remember and honor those who have served our country.  I found these pics from Memorial Day weekend in 2013 and I remember my kids at that stage like it was 20 minutes ago.  This summer we will be doing some traveling to visit college options for Ellie.  One more year with her home.  Pass the tissues.. I seriously can’t believe it!

The sales are SO good this weekend and I’ve already ordered a couple of big items I’ve been patiently waiting to buy.  20% off at Mcgee & Co and I’m so excited about this Eileen coffee table!  It has been on my wishlist for a while.  I’ve been wanting a new coffee table for our family room for a couple of years and knew this was “the one” the second I saw it on-line.  I always wait for sales to purchase Mcgee & Co items because they are pricey, but I will say that everything I’ve ordered from them has become a favorite.  Here are a few other Mcgee favorites that I own and love..

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{mumbai rug}

My mudroom runner.  I still love this so much.  My dress was from the Nordstrom sale last year.. another great summer sale to look forward to!

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{malta woven wool rug}

The rug in our playroom is another favorite that has held up beautifully!  I wish I had more progress to share in this space but it looks pretty much the same.  I need to prioritize it but there are always so many other things on my to-do list!  Most of the other items in this space are also on sale!

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

My white terracotta jars are back in stock and I know these won’t last long so don’t wait if you want them!  I get asked about them all the time and they have been out of stock.  They come in two sizes – tall and short – and are up on the shelf over my range in this picture holding my favorite faux peonies.

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

This is the short jar holding eucalyptus on my gold tray.  Some of my decor I rotate but these jars are always on display somewhere!  They are great basics that are easy to style and always look good.

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{stetson table lamp}

Of course you all remember my stetson lamps!  LOVE them.

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{summer tablescape/dining room sources}

Thank you for helping me find them a permanent home. :)

Below are other favorites from McGee & Co!  I have and love most of these items and along with the coffee table I also ordered that cute clock!

McGee and Co (thesunnysideupblog.com)
1-arched mirror   2- bjork mirror  3- doormat

4- faux basil  5- woven wool rug   6- fern

7- cross hatch object  8- terracotta jar

9- mumbai rug   10- table lamp   11- coffee table

12- white lined pot  13- lilac stem   14- counter stool

15- wall clock  16- fiberstone planter

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{similar square black planters/faux lemon tree options herehereherehere/lemon tree baskets/another basket option/my rug/similar rug options hereherehere}

Remember my stunning trees from Home Depot?  WOW.  They were so gorgeous for about a month!

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Now they’ve lost their blossoms and aren’t doing quite so hot.  The front is ok.. the backside of them (not getting any sun) is dying.  Plus they are SO high maintenance!  I’ve had to water them every day to keep them alive and the water is staining my flagstone.  Aside from that I’ve been dealing with such a mess on my porch every day!  I kept sweeping the dirt and then the next day dirt and leaves were all over my rug.  I finally got to the bottom of what was causing the mess and couldn’t believe it!

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Sweetest little bird nest full of new babies!  I found them like this so soon after being born.. you can see that one egg hadn’t even hatched yet!  I know you aren’t supposed to touch them or the mom can smell trouble and won’t come back so I’ve left them alone and just peek at them here and there.  We all crowd around Kenny’s office door (it’s to the side of our front porch) and watch the mom fly in and out all day feeding them.  Isn’t that the cutest thing ever!?  So these trees are staying put.  Once these babies can fly and are off on their own I will plant my trees but for now.. I don’t mind the mess and maintenance so much anymore. :)

I have decided though that once my trees are gone I’m ready for faux plants for this porch!  What do you think of these hydrangea potted plants from Frontgate?  I love the look.. I’m just wondering if I need something a little taller.  I linked some Frongate favorites below because everything is up to 40% off this weekend!

Frontgate sale (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1- float holder  / pool float    2- shaped poolside seats

Then there’s Nordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale!  Not as anticipated as their Anniversary sale, but still some great deals on really cute things.  This fun summer top is marked down!

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Also my beloved T3 hair tools are on sale!  Every hair tool I own is now T3.  I especially love the blow dryer and curling iron.  Long time favorites at our house!  I linked other favorites on sale below.  I have a lot of these items and just ordered #9 and #10.  That throw looks so beautiful and is such a great price!

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{similar pink cherry blossom branches/Quin white vase/similar round tray/Abbott table/similar chairs/Arabesque rug}

In other news.. my beautiful pink petal plates are back!

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

So is the cute petal cake stand that goes with them.  I used them on my Easter table last year and got so many questions about them but they had sold out.

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

These plates also make great decor when we aren’t using them!  They look so beautiful in a glass kitchen cabinet or stacked on a counter, open shelf or on a tray like I have them styled at the moment.  I ordered these beautiful petal dinner plates to go with them too!  (Mine are the salad plates.)  Below are other RP favorites that are in stock.  These items aren’t on sale, but I didn’t want to wait to share them because I know they will sell out!

RP Home Favorites (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1- frayed stripe table runner   2- petal dinner plates

3- set 4 drinking glasses   4- set 4 petal plates

5- wood serving board.  6- petal cake stand.

7- frayed cotton napkins

Anthropologie has so many cute items marked down and some are up to 40% off!  I rounded up my top picks below including our playroom light fixture.  Their candles are always a treat and one of my favorite gifts to give.  I just ordered this cute blue tassel pillow for Ad’s bedroom that I’ve had my eye on and the pineapple tee.  Only slightly obsessed with Anthro graphic tees and planning to live in them this summer.  :)

{westerleigh 1 – drawer nightstand/wool jute rug}

I snapped this pic quick with my phone and it’s not the greatest but Kenny just put together these cute nightstands for Ad’s room and I wanted to share!  I LOVE the look and the quality seems great!  I’ll let you know after we’ve had them for a while, but so far I’m very happy with them.  They look like they have 2 drawers but it’s actually just one deeper drawer.  They come in lots of colors and are on sale!  I linked other Wayfair sale picks below.  They have some great options for kids’ desks and outdoor items marked down.

Wayfair Sale (thesunnysideupblog.com)

11- alake desk  12- L-shape desk   13- colm chair

Spring Family Room (Sunny Side Up)

{fringe & texture pillow/montecito pillow/addie stripe tassel pillow}

Serena & Lily is also having a huge sale with 20% off of everything!  S & L is another store I always wait to shop on sale day.  Their pillows are so beautiful and amazing quality!  I’ve found that if I splurge on one or two really nice pillows I can fill in the rest of my couch with less expensive Target/Walmart/Amazon options and still get a high end look.  I linked my favorite S & L pillows below!  They are pretty much all navy. :)  Also how cute is that scallop tray and the lemon wallpaper!?

Serena & Lily Sale (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1-bell pendant   2- scallop tray   3- montecito pillow

4- topanga pillow   5- stripe tassel pillow   6- ryder demin rug

Weekend Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Colleen Rothschild is also having a huge Memorial Day sale!  You can find details on my skin routine in this post.  (The hair mask is GOLD!)

Pottery Barn also has some fun items on sale and I didn’t get my favorites rounded up from PB in time to share.. hopefully coming soon!  I also hope this post helps you navigate if you are shopping the sales this weekend.  Sometimes when so many fun things are marked down it’s hard to land on what you really want/need.

Kenny will be the first to tell you that I don’t have that problem at all.  Ha. ;)

Enjoy your weekend and if you are traveling drive safe!  We are celebrating Addison’s 15th birthday this weekend!  Other than that and some cleaning I’ll just be over here shopping sales on-line and watching our baby birds.

Sounds like a perfect weekend to me.

:)

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

Hello!  It has been a while since my last blog post and I’ve missed you all!  Can you believe that we are nearing the end of May!?  We are counting down to the last day of school around here (9 and 1/2 days left according to Kole.. don’t forget the half!) and I can’t believe it.  It’s strange because most schools just reopened in our neck of the woods so we were just getting in a good routine with going to school and now the year is ending!  It feels like it just started.  But it also feels like this has been the longest school year ever so we’re ready for summer.  Bring on slow mornings with no lunch prep! :)

I’m sharing some fun patriotic home decor ideas today!  Some years I’m more into patriotic decor than others and last year I was clearly feeling it.  Ha.  I haven’t done much with red, white and blue yet, but we aren’t traveling for Memorial Day weekend (it’s Addison’s birthday Sunday) so the stars and stripes might make an appearance!  I do love to get it up by the end of May if I can pull it off so that we can enjoy it for June and July.

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

My favorite burlap banners are back!  I know you’ve seen these before.. I’ve had them for years and they are still my favorite for patriotic decor!  I use them inside and outside.  Such a simple and fun way to add a little red, white and blue.

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

These patterned ceramic planters are also back in stock in blue.  Beautiful year round!  I usually add a simple flag to dress them up for the 4th.

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

I kept my entry simple last year with just a couple of favorite throws, a red pillow and my flag print on my console table.  It helps when the majority of your decor is already navy. :)

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{del mar cotton throw}

My beloved HOME pillow is back in stock in blue and I rounded up a few other cute red and blue options below.  I just ordered this fun indoor/outdoor pillow after looking for pillows to share.  This job is downright dangerous.

In the best way possible. :)

Hello burlap banner.  Always nice to see you again. :)

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

This cute flag lumbar pillow is also back in stock!

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

This room took an entire 20 minutes to decorate.  I rounded up all of the navy pillows and throws I had and then added a few simple patriotic touches.  So fun.  Now I want to decorate this room tomorrow.  Clear the schedule!  I’m mean do we really need groceries?  Kole can do his Hawaii state float without supplies and Addison can drive herself to her end of the year activities… right?  And Ellie’s dance team tryouts for her senior year.. we can bag that, can’t we?  So mom can decorate?

Like I originally said.. hoping to decorate by the end of May. ;)

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

Last year I added another burlap banner and favorite 4th of July pics to my shiplap display wall.  I can’t wait to do this again!

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

So fun getting these pictures off of my computer and out where we can enjoy them!  If you don’t have a set place to display seasonal pictures like this try hanging them on ribbon as a banner in a window or on your fireplace mantel or going down your staircase banister.  Pictures make the best decor and are always my family’s favorite. :)

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

Below are a few pics of our patriotic decor in our outdoor area I’ve shared before.  So excited for backyard summer get togethers this year!

I hope these pictures gave you a few ideas of simple ways you can make your home feel festive for all of the patriotic holidays coming up!

Patriotic Decor Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

It’s time for all of us to clear our schedules and decorate.  Bring on the burlap banners!  And get ready for some major red, white and blue.

Outdoor deck (Sunny Side Up)

{3-piece patio set}

Hello hello!  I hope your week is off to a good start!  I’m sharing some recent fashion favorites today, but before I do I wanted to let you know that this cute little patio set I put on our outdoor deck last summer is back in stock!  It sold out quickly last year and I kept getting questions about it so I wanted to mention that it’s back. :)

Outdoor deck (Sunny Side Up)

{best choice umbrella – on this deck/cantilever umbrella – around our pool/similar stripe rug}

Adding a little furniture set to our back upstairs deck last summer was so rewarding!  We’ve used our deck more this past year than we did in the 7 previous years we’ve lived in this house.  Our deck still looks like this other than the pillows are a little sun faded and minus the real flowers of course.  Those babies are long gone.  Ha.

Recent Fashion Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

You can tell how much we’ve loved this space by Kole’s expression in the picture above.  Actually I don’t know what you can tell by Kole’s expression in the picture above.  Is he happy?  Sad?  Laughing?  Crying?  Trying not to spit out his drink?  Thinking his drink is too sour?  One of life’s mysteries we may never know.

What we do know is that it’s clearly time to move on to fashion.  (I really need to stop writing my posts after 11 pm..)

As soon as our sun decides to peek out (so cool and cloudy lately!) I’ll be sporting my suit with this cute romper over it.  Just like a good graphic tee I’ve never met a black romper I didn’t love. :)  Zella is a go-to brand for me in the summer.  I really like their leggings, shorts, jackets, tanks, sports bras.  GOOD stuff for exercise and lounge wear.

Do you have a “just got out of the shower” outfit?  Because I do and it’s these moonlight pjs. :)  They are so soft and comfy!  I always put them on when I get out of the shower while I get ready.  I’ve never liked going straight from the shower to my clothes.  Especially if I need to blow dry my hair.  Drying my hair is a process (which is why it usually happens only twice a week) and I like to be in something cool and comfy.  Obviously these are great summer pjs too but if you haven’t tried a “just got out of the shower” designated outfit to get ready in, I would highly recommend both the ritual and these pjs. :)

Since I know you’re sick of seeing mirror selfies at this point (I certainly am!) I’ll share some pics from Mother’s Day I want to document.  It’s one gift my kids give me every year.. a picture with no complaining. :)

I laughed out loud when I saw this pic.  His face tells it all!  I didn’t realize Kenny was snapping pics during our conversation.  He got everything on camera..

Not feeling another picture with mom AT ALL and just wants to get out of his church clothes.

Summer updates

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

{chenille 3 piece duvet cover set/jute pouf ottomans/similar inhale & exhale prints}

Is it feeling like Summer where you live?  If you live on the coast in San Diego we have what’s lovingly known as “May Gray” and “June Gloom.”  May and June tend to be our cloudiest months and I have to work hard to not let it affect my mood!  I’m hoping it isn’t too bad overall this year, but this week has definitely been on the gloomy side.  To cheer myself up I brought a little sunshine inside this week with some simple summer updates. :)  I can’t wait to get my kids out of school and to have friends/guests over!  I got this fun duvet, pillows and poufs from Walmart and love the summer vibe they brought into our guest bedroom.  Walmart has so many cute options for summer decor right now.. inside and outside!  You’ve probably noticed that I always stick with white bedding in our bedrooms.  It’s hands down my favorite.  White duvets/comforters always look crisp and clean and then I can switch pillows and easily mix things up for different seasons.  These navy jute pouf ottomans are adorable!  A little small for this bedroom so they might end up in our outdoor area.  I’m always tweaking things and playing musical decor.. nothing new around here. :)

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

{chenille 3 piece duvet cover set/stripe pillow/trellis throw pillow}

When these two pink pillows showed up on my doorstep and I saw/felt them in person I immediately ordered two more in navy!  So soft and a great price.  I love the simple trellis pattern.  They come in lots of colors and are such great staples to layer with patterned pillows on a bed or couch.

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

Also loving these cute rattan lamps!  Honestly though.. I don’t think I’ve met anything rattan that I haven’t loved.  Ha.

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

I added this white glazed ceramic pot and a simple summer candle to the nightstand and just like that.. summer in the guest room. :)

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

I brought some simple summer vibes into our powder bath too!

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

Words can’t express my love for this little lemon bath mat.  It’s just ADORABLE.  I have a thing for lemons.  Did you know that?  My mom does too. :)  We’ve always loved them which is why I have lemons at the top of my blog.  I put lemon trees in my yard and nothing makes me happier than a bowl of lemons on my kitchen counter in the spring and summer.

Other than a lemon bath mat in my bathroom. :)   *Mom I bought one for you too!  But you have to come and visit to get it.  I’m tricky like that. ;)

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

{round woven tray/white glazed ceramic pot/summer candle}

This woven tray was perfect for my bathroom counter and instantly made it feel like summer!  This ceramic pot is the same pot on my guest bedroom nightstand, but the larger 8 inch size and the candle has lemons on it and ties in the bath mat.  Love it!

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

{paisley bath towels}

I have been so impressed with Better Homes & Gardens Walmart bath towels!  They are soft and extremely absorbent and such a great price.  We’ve been using and loving these diamond bath towels since December so I picked up this paisley set.  I still need to find a cute little hand towel to bring in the yellow in this room!

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

Last but not least I finally bought these fruit prints that I’ve loved on-line for over a year!  I’ll show you what I’m going do with them as soon as I figure that out!  But it will be cute.. and summery. :)

Summer Updates (Sunny Side Up)

{favorite fruit dip here}

In other fun summer news my favorite divided server plate is back in stock!  This was my most used kitchen item last summer.  I try to toss fruit/veggies on it in the morning so my kids have healthy snacks to grab throughout the day.  It makes me feel better about all of the ice cream, popsicles and candy we eat in the summer.

If you’re a mom who wouldn’t mind easing summer food guilt too, give it a try. ;)

Other Walmart favorites for living room, kitchen and outdoor are linked below!  I found so many CUTE things!  Now I just need our sun to reappear and we’ll be set.

Bring on the lemons.

Spring/Summer Tablescape

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

We all survived another week!  YEA.  And it’s Mother’s Day weekend!  I hope you have something fun and/or relaxing planned!  I’m planning on sleeping in (fingers crossed until at least 8 am!) so I’m a happy camper. :)  This pic was taken on Mother’s Day last year.  I’m so grateful for these 3 today and every day.  I landed on this old Mother’s Day post a few weeks ago and it made me smile.  It also made me feel really proud of myself for surviving all the years when my 3 were little!  If you are in that stage of motherhood with young kids I have deep respect.  You are doing amazing.  Take it one day at a time. :)  Two years ago on Mother’s Day I wrote a post titled 10 Habits of Happy Moms.  I wanted to link to it again in case you are a mom who is struggling right now (we’ve all been there).  I’m certainly no expert on parenting!  These are just things that have helped me enjoy motherhood (and life in general!) over the years.

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

{wall mirror/similar olive tree here & here/wool jute rug/similar lights}

Aside from sleeping in, I’m so happy that I’m not cooking this weekend.  Double score!  Always my #1 wish on Mother’s Day.  I do have a pretty table set up though!  You know.. for my take out. ;)

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

{sunken treasure canvas}

On a quick sidenote.. my new lamps are loving their new home in the dining room.  Thanks for helping with that little decision

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

I wanted to set up something fun that would work for Spring/Summer get togethers.  I can’t wait to entertain again this summer!  It’s always so fun to have people over.. even if it’s just a few girlfriends for a quick lunch!

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

{large gold planter/small gold planter/faux pink peonies}

I fell hard for these gold planters and love that they come in two sizes!  I put some faux pink peonies in the small planter for my living room mantel (shared that in my last post).  I loved the look so much I did the same thing for my dining room table.  You could obviously get this same look with real flowers too.  Any flowers would be pretty!  I love faux flowers because I can leave this up for months!  When we aren’t entertaining the dining room looks pretty to walk by and I don’t have to worry about watering/killing/replacing the flowers.

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

But my favorite part of this tablescape?  Aside from the fact that I don’t have to keep flowers alive?  These jute chargers!  Aren’t they so fun for summer!?  I absolutely love them and they were such a good deal!  I’ve seen so many similar pricey options and kept hunting for the same look for less.  Target for the win once again!  It was a happy day when I landed on these on-line.  (The plates were from PB but sold out.)

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

The beautiful glasses and gold flatware from Amazon are icing on the cake!

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

Spring/Summer Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

These pretty pink pillows have been making the rounds in my house.  They work well in every room and I’m tempted to pick up another set!

The only thing stopping me is my pillow closet.  I’ve been organizing ALL the pillows around here and it’s causing a serious pause on my growing collection.  I’m going to have to donate a few more before I’m allowed to buy a few more.

At least I can admit I have a problem.  #pillowsarelife   #cantstopwontstop

Spring Living Room

Spring Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

I hope you’re having a good week so far!  I can definitely tell it’s May because our family calendar is full.  We have more activity going on this month than we’ve had in a year.  Ha!  Are there any other moms out there feeling it?  There’s always so much to wrap up when a school year is ending.  I do love it though.  Lots of celebrating and checking things off the list with the promise of slow summer days in the future.  Plus it feels good to be busy again!  I don’t know how you feel but 2020 gave our family enough down time to last for a while. ;)

Spring Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

I’m sharing a few pics of my living room at the moment!  I added some simple Spring touches but I still want to re-style my shelves.  I was going to wait until I had done that to take some pictures, but after looking at our calendar I decided I better just share a few pics now or it will be time for Fall decor before I get around to shelf styling.  Who cares about pink flowers when it’s time to talk orange pumpkins!?  So here is my living room at the moment with shelves that still need some tweaking. :)

Spring Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

Really I just wanted to share my Spring mantel because it makes me happy and was so easy to style!

Spring Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

Candlesticks are one of those items that I use in my decor all year long.  They work with every season for mantles and tables.  I’ve had this wooden set for a while and linked some other fun options below.  Next to my candlesticks I put some of my favorite faux peonies in this cute little gold planter vase and then I ordered this beautiful floral print on-line.  You can buy this print already framed, but it cost more plus I wanted a thin wooden frame so I did a little hunting and found this inexpensive poster frame with the exact look I wanted.  Target.. I knew I loved you. :)

Spring Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{artisan vase/faux lilac options here & here & here/wood beads/metal gold frame/bella branch art here & here/gold lamp}

This is similar to what I did this year on my family room console table.  Adding a pretty floral print in a frame is such an easy and inexpensive way to bring Spring/Summer vibes into your home!

Spring Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

Spring in the living room!  All sources are at the end of this post.  Our weather is warming up and flowers are blooming and life is feeling more and more normal every week.  I’ll take it. :)

In other not so important news.. I had a happy Target run and got some cute things for the house!  I’ll share what I’m doing with everything in posts to come, but a lot of times the best items sell out so I rounded up what I bought and some other McGee/Target favorites below.  See the little Target sack in the back of my car?  That is what I went for and actually needed (hand soap, deodorant, etc.). I had to laugh walking out of the store with my cart full of decor.  Target is a dangerous place to hang out!

For some of us more than others. ;)

{santorini urn/similar faux cherry blossoms}

Happy Friday!  It’s April 30th and my dad’s 75th birthday today!  Which means it’s going to be a great day. :)  (I love you dad!)  Really I can’t believe that we are at the end of April!  I feel like I just shared my March Amazon Buys with you all last week.  This time of year gets busy and always flies by so quickly doesn’t it!?  Today I’ve got a quick round up of the things we ordered from Amazon this month.  It’s so fun prepping these posts.. I just pull up my monthly Amazon order to remember what we’ve ordered and then I give you a little peek even further inside of our lives.  Ha.  Whether it’s sharing what the inside of my cupboards and drawers look like or what we ordered on Amazon for the month.. there is pretty much no mystery left around here now.  You know it all!  So funny because when I meet people in real life who read my blog I immediately want to say.. “so.. tell me about YOU!”  It always feels a little one sided.  I want to peek inside your drawers and see what you ordered on Amazon for the month of April.  Then we’ll really be besties. ;)

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

{screen mom screen cleaner/weiman quartz & stone countertop cleaner}

Ok.. first up are some tried and true favorites that were running out!  We love screen mom to clean all of our screens – computers/tv.. it works so well!  I use Weiman quartz countertop cleaner to really make my kitchen counters shine and LOVE it.  I also love Myers counter sprays (these are my favorite Spring scents!) and I usually rotate between that and this quartz cleaner.

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

{comb cleaner brush}

I bought my girls this comb cleaner brush for Christmas (put one in each of their stockings) and they are so great at getting hair out of brushes I just ordered one for me!  The bristles really dig in and get the hair out quickly.  We have thick hair at our house and need to clean out our brushes often so this is a new staple!

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

{coat rack shoe bench/striped beach/pool/bath towels}

I also picked up a few more of our favorite summer towels for our coat rack turned pool towel holder.  Getting ready for pool days!  YEA.

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

This coat rack was definitely one of my favorite Amazon purchases of last year.  I still love this solution for pool towels!  It just works so well for us.  It’s in stock and almost half off!

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

A reader sent me this picture and it just made my day.  So clever!  Use this rack for pool towels and swimsuits in the summer and then snow clothes and boots in the winter!  I also love how she put two side by side for more storage.

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

Nothing like warm days and kids who actually hang up their pool towels.  It’s the little things. :)

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

I’ve shared this battery organizer before but had to order another one for my main floor laundry room.  You might remember in my “before” pictures.. it was such a mess!  I had a lot more batteries than I realized and just kept buying them because the drawers were so messy I couldn’t tell!  Can’t wait to show you that little makeover next month. :)

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

April Amazon Buys (Sunny Side Up)

I also picked up the latest Dog Man book for Kole.  The obsession continues. :)

A few other purchases linked below include some pretty pink glasses (they are so beautiful and I’ll share them styled soon!), a couple of makeup bags I’m trying out, some summer shorts and the cutest mini backpack for Ad!  She wanted something smaller than her regular backpack to take to after school activities.  It comes in so many cute colors!  I also picked up more duster for our keyboards.  Exciting stuff. :)

Free Assembly Fashion Favorites

*This post is sponsored by Walmart and affiliate links are used

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

{tiered dress with puff sleeves/three strap slide sandal}

Happy Thursday!  Is it warm yet in your neck of the woods!?  We’ve had a cooler Spring this year and I’m so anxious for SUN!  We’ll get a warm sunny day here and there and then back to cool and cloudy.  Spring is such a tease. :)  I’m sharing a few recent Spring fashion favorites from Walmart.  If you haven’t ever checked out their Free Assembly brand of clothes you should!  It’s full of cute, affordable basics and I find myself slipping Free Assembly items into my on-line cart with our groceries more and more every month.  It’s just a little too convenient.  Ha.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

This black tiered dress with puff sleeves is adorable!  Lightweight and easy breezy.  It comes in white too which is a little more Spring like but I always go for black.  I’ve found that my black clothes rarely go out of style!  They look great year after year.  If you’re looking for some cute COMFY sandals for a steal try these three strap slide sandals.  You can dress them up or down and the sole is padded and so soft.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Speaking of black basics.. this strappy romper is another Free Assembly favorite.  If it looks similar to rompers I already own that’s because it is. :)  I live in stuff like this in the summer!  My kids swim multiple times a day so I find myself putting on my suit and just leaving it on most of the day.  I love rompers that I can toss over my suit if we leave the house for a quick popsicle run. :)

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Here’s a closer look.. I love the sash that ties around the waist!  It has a flattering fit and the material is nice and thick.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

So cute for summer.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

{gathered neck top/high rise skinny jeans}

You can’t beat a cute simple tee!  Or another black basic.  Clearly I’m a fan. :)  Also these high rise skinny jeans are such a good fit for the price!  So comfortable and they have a nice amount of stretch.  They come in a darker wash and a black.  I really need more light options when it comes to jeans so I got the lightest wash.  I’m wearing a size 4 (I’m usually a small in bottoms) and they fit perfect!

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

{raglan stripe sweater/high rise skinny jeans}

This sweater is comfy and warm but lightweight.  Perfect for Spring days that are still on the cool side.  I wore it twice last week and my kids were quick to point that out to me.  Gotta love their never-ending honesty and attention to detail.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

{flutter sleeve sweater tee/high rise skinny jeans}

This is another lightweight sweater that I know will be on repeat.  So cute and of course I had to get it in green!  It does come in other colors too.  The sleeves are my favorite!  The reviews said it runs small but I’m wearing my regular size (xs) and like the fit.  I could have easily gone up a size if I wanted it longer.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

{ribbed crewneck tee/high rise skinny jeans}

I ordered a few of these ribbed crewneck tees (along with one of the long sleeved tees!) because I find myself reaching for comfy basics like this a lot.  Perfect with sweat pants or leggings to wear around the house or to layer under a vest, cardigan, button sweater, etc.  I got the navy, white and heather color.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

I also picked up a couple of these long sleeve henley shirts for Kenny.  He put it on and immediately said “oh I like this!”  I knew he would. :)  Then he wore it two days in a row and I’m still wondering why the kids didn’t give him a hard time like they did me.  Probably because dad’s wardrobe is always basics on repeat and isn’t on their radar.  At least that’s what I’m telling myself to feel better. ;)

(Another great shot of Kenny.. he wouldn’t slow down long enough for me to take a pic so this is all I got.  He’s not winning any blogger husband awards lately.. that’s for sure.  Speaking of.. if you’re interested in hearing about my job from Kenny’s point of view you can read this “husbands tell all” post from the archives.  If you’ve already read it then you understand why I haven’t had him write a post since.  Clearly we need to work on our picture posing skills first.  Baby steps with this one.) ;)

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

{classic reglan sweatshirt/classic sweatpants}

Ok.. last favorite Free Assembly find and I’m in love!  But since they’re sweats you already knew that. :)  These are such a good fit and so comfy!  (I usually wear a small in bottoms but these are an xs and fit perfect so if you’re in-between sizes go down one.)

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

As soon as I’m done running kids around for the day I switch to sweats!  That’s the one thing I miss about lockdown.. I finally got to live my dream of never taking off my sweats and joggers.  ;)

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

{men’s long sleeve crew sweatshirt}

Kenny and I are both having a hard time adjusting to our “back to normal” busy schedules and work clothes.  We got pretty used to a slower paced life at home in comfy clothes all day.  It made us ready for retirement and now we’re counting down.. ha. ;)

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

I’m so proud of myself for surviving having him and the kids all home for so long.  Moms pat yourself on the back.. that was no small feat!  My kids are going back to school but Kenny hasn’t been back to his office yet.  He has decided he’s pretty productive working from home and likes the added bonus of being able to give me a hard time all day.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

I don’t know what I’d do without him and his sarcasm.

I’d be a lot more efficient and productive.. that’s for sure.

Spring Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

But I definitely wouldn’t laugh as much..

so I guess I’ll keep him around.

;)

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

*affiliate links used

Happy Monday!  I hope your week is off to a good start!  It’s raining here today and rain always makes me want to stay in pjs and organize so I’m kind of bummed that I have a busy list of to-dos that doesn’t include organizing.  Or pjs. :)  Maybe this evening I’ll get my wish!  I’m pausing on our organizing challenge for a few days because I have some other fun things to share, but if you are in the trenches with me and working on your garage this week I have a big post with tips coming!  Get started on the purging part.. that’s the biggest hurdle when it comes to garage organization isn’t it!?

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{santorini urn/similar faux cherry blossoms}

Today I’m sharing gift ideas for Mother’s Day and I had so much fun putting together this post!  It’s a round up of my favorite things that I would love to receive for a gift.  Some of these things you’ve seen and some are more recent.  Really my favorite gift for Mother’s Day each year is the homemade cards or slideshows my kids put together and just enjoying a day with no cleaning, cooking, shuttling kids, etc.  It’s a rare occurrence isn’t it!?  Well deserved moms! :)  But if you want to send something special to your mom or your husband needs a few fun ideas, I’ve got you covered!  I LOVE everything I’m sharing today staring with this gorgeous new urn that just came in the mail!  This was a Christmas present from Kenny.  I hinted to him that I loved it in NOVEMBER.  He ordered it and it just came last week.  Crazy delay time!  For Christmas he gave me a print out of a picture of it and told me “it’s coming.”  That’s always a fun option if you want to send something for a gift that won’t be delivered on time.  It looks like this urn is back in stock (it had sold out for a while) so hopefully if you decide to order one you won’t have to wait 6 months like I did!  But I will say.. worth the wait!  It’s HUGE and absolutely stunning.  Christmas in April!  Thanks babe. ;)

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{melanin bed sheets}

I shared these sheets at Christmas and gave them to everyone on my list.  Huge hit!  They really are the best sheets for such a great price!  I have a set of grey or white on every bed in our house at the moment.  I wash our sheets often and they have all held up great!  They would make a perfect gift for mother’s day.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{vuori performance joggers}

Ok.. major repeat but I can’t do a gift idea post without shouting my love from the rooftops about my favorite joggers EVER.  So soft.. so flattering.  Your mom won’t want to take them off!  (Neither will you so pick up a pair for both of you and thank me later!)

They are back in stock in most colors and they’ve add a few new colors this year!  They also added a “long” version if you are taller or don’t love the cropped fit.

{black camo jogger/halo essential hoodie/love this new pale heather camo too!/adidas swift run sneaker}

They are hands down the most worn item in my closet.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

I love Vuori workout clothes too and shared a post with favorites here.  A few quick favorite go-to’s of mine are this lux performance tank, this energy top, and their daily leggings.

And if you want to get a jump-start on Father’s Day.. Kenny is obsessed with Vuori clothes too!  It’s pretty much all he wears now that he’s working from home.  Their banks shorts and their strato tees are his favorite!

{navy shampoo & conditioner/navy texture spray/navy biotin treatment serum/olaplex bonding oil/urban decay makeup setting spray/living proof dry shampoo}

These are some products I’ve been using and loving lately.  I have heard so many great things about Navy hair care products so I finally decided to give them a try.  Wow.  I have to admit that I love them too!  When I first went to order the shampoo and conditioner to try I was a little bummed that they were pricey for such a small bottle but I quickly learned that a little bit goes a long way with this stuff!  You really don’t have to use much to get a nice lather for your hair and I love the way it makes my hair look and feel.  The biotin treatment is good but my #1 favorite is their texture spray!  Seriously gold!  I’ve never used a texture spray before but I’m 100% hooked now.  It gives your hair so much volume and that salon look!  Just spray a little where you want some volume/height. It’s magic I tell you!  My recommendation if you want to try this or give it as a gift is to order this set that includes the shampoo/conditioner and the texture spray.  SO GOOD!

Other favorites include the Urban Decay make-up setting spray and the Living Proof dry shampoo.  My girls asked for both of these products for Christmas and I tried them out and now I’m hooked too!  My make-up looks good ALL DAY thanks to the setting spray (usually it fades half way through the day and I’m reapplying if I have to be somewhere in the evening) and the dry shampoo makes my hair feel and smell so clean!  Which is saying a lot because I usually only wash my hair twice a week.  I’m also loving this Olaplex bonding oil to put on my hair after I blow-dry it.  It calms the frizz and makes it so shiny.  The girls who do my hair swear by all of the Olaplex products so I’m going to try more soon.  Really happy with the bonding oil and all of the products above!  Any of them would make a great Mother’s Day gift.

{quench and shine restorative mask}

So would my favorite hair mask that’s finally back in stock!  LOVE LOVE LOVE this.  I use it once a week instead of conditioner and it makes my hair is so soft and easy to style.  This always sells out so don’t wait if you want to try it!  I’m buying a few extra to keep on hand for gifts.  It’s so good!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

Another fun gift idea while we’re talking hair is any T3 hair tool.  My blowdryer, curling iron and straightener are all T3.  I’ve had them for years and love them.  They are all on sale right now too!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

Ok.. now that we’ve talked all things hair let’s move on to skin!  Addison and I have been on a major skin care kick lately.  Well.. me lately.. Addison always!  This girl has been obsessed with skin care for years now and is exploring becoming a dermatologist or something similar.  I told her to bypass that and look into plastic surgery so she can give her mom a face lift someday.  Kidding!  Kind of. ;)  Who knows what her future career holds but for now.. we talk about skin care a lot at our house. :)

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{aira facial steamer}

Addison really wanted a facial steamer for Christmas so I ordered her an inexpensive steamer on Amazon and she used it religiously and it was horrible.  Sputtered.. only worked well half of the time.  Such a disappointment!  So when Vanity Planet reached out to me to see if I was interested in trying their Aira steamer I was so excited because I knew Addison would love it.  What I didn’t expect was how much I would love it too!  This is the BEST steamer!  I’m totally hooked now and Addison has sucked me into her skin care world.  We get so excited every weekend to have our own little “spa nights” where we paint nails and steam our faces and try out new masks. :)

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

Here it is in action.  Wash your face, pull back your hair and turn it on!  Then just let that steam work its magic.  It cleans your pores and hydrates your skin and feels amazing.  Addison does it 2-3 times a week and we can tell a big difference with her breakouts.  I have really dry skin and love how much it hydrates mine!  I love Vanity Planet products and reached out to them to see if I could offer you all a discount on my blog like I was able to do for IG stories when I shared this there.  They said yes and are offering a discount on all of my favorite products if you purchase them through this link on my blog!  YEA!  Best deal!  :)  (Discount is automatically applied when you use my link!)

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up){raedia facial cleansing brush}

Another Vanity Planet favorite is their Raedia.  Many of you probably remember how much I loved my Clarisonic and how sad I was when that company went out of business.  I was so happy when I discovered the Raedia!  It’s a facial cleansing brush just like the Clarisonic but I love it even more because it’s so gentle and comes with different brush heads.  Ad has sensitive skin and the 3rd white brush works so well for her.  I love this travel case it comes in too!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

This honestly gives your skin such a deep clean that you just can’t get using a washcloth.  I’m so excited about it and you can get it for such a good deal!  I also have Vanity Planet’s sonic toothbrush and LED travel mirror and love them too.  My Vanity Planet favorites with a “sunny” discount are all linked here.  Any of them would make a great Mother’s Day gift!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

While we’re talking skin care I wrote a post about all of my favorite skin products and my skincare routine here.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

I love all Colleen Rothschild products but my top product recommendations for a Mother’s Day gift would be the hair mask I mentioned above, the retinol supreme eye serum (the bottle has a new look!) or the extreme recovery cream. I can’t live without those 3 products now!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{cowl neck sweater – on sale!/ag jeans/ugg slippers}

Slippers are always a safe gift for most moms.  If I’m home I’m wearing a pair!  My feet get so sore walking around on my wood floors if I don’t wear house shoes!  I’ve reached for these Ugg slippers the most this winter.

{Chunky Wool Jute Rug/Memory Foam Indoor Slippers/Koolaburra by Ugg Slippers}

But now that the weather is warming up I’m pulling out my summer slippers!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

I especially love these memory foam flip flops.  So soft and they keep my feet cool in the summer!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

My girls each have a pair too.  Comfort is big in our house. :)

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{ugg fluffette slipper/ugg cozzette slipper}

These are two other pairs I love and wear often.  Don’t mock my obsession with slippers.  2020 was a long year and these babies helped get me through it!  Ha!  #noshame

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

If I can’t wear slippers my next go-to are my Adidas Swift Run Sneakers.  I absolutely love this shoe for light exercise and every day running around!  A pair would make a great gift for any mom.  So comfy and stylish!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{cambia dinnerware/large footed serving bowl/oval serving bowl}

These Cambria dishes are my favorites for every day and a set would make an amazing gift!  I got two of this set for my birthday a few years back and we have loved them.  Then later I picked up this large footed serving bowl and this oval serving bowl and have loved them too.  (Both are on sale!)

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

We use them every day for dinner, cereal, pasta, etc. and I also display them around my home and layer them with decorative plates for decor and table settings when we are entertaining.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

I use the serving bowl a lot to hold fruit too!  This was the only pic I could find of it.. ha.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

Kenny really spoiled me this past December for Christmas.  I told you he ordered me the urn above (that took forever to get here).  He bought me this Tory Burch purse and he also got me what I really wanted.  A Dyson vacuum!  So many of you have messaged me on IG telling me how much you love yours (I have been debating one for years!).  I was hesitant to get one because we have central vac in our home and I didn’t really want another vacuum.  I love my central vac but always having to plug in the cord when I want to just hit the kitchen floor quick was getting old.  Kenny surprised me with the V11 Torque Drive and now I can’t believe I lived without it for so long!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{dyson vacuum}

These pics are a little dark.  I just snapped them quick today of my cleaning closet where we hung the vacuum.  I have loved this vacuum so much!  Kenny was like “are you SURE you want a vacuum for a gift?  I’m not going to get in trouble for this later.. right?”  Ha ha.  Not in trouble with me.  I love a clean house and anything that makes that easier for me to achieve is a win in my book!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

Anyone tired of pjs yet?  Never! :)  These moonlight pjs are so cute and perfect for summer!  They come in lots of fun colors/patterns.  My cute El loves them and I bought them for my mom in navy last year and she loves them too!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

{barefoot dreams in the wild throw blanket/barefoot dreams cozychic throw blanket}

And last but not least I can’t end a gift guide without mentioning Barefoot Dream blankets!  I was so skeptical of these blankets when they first came out.  They are definitely pricey!  But I finally caved after hearing people rave about them for years and now I get it.  Hands down the most coveted blankets in our house and you all know.. I own a lot of throws!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

I snapped this of Kenny last night watching baseball.  I’m laughing at his smile in this pic because I know him so well.  This is his forced “I love you so I’ll do this but make it quick so I can get back to my game” smile.  Kenny always has one of my barefoot dream throws draped over him and if he isn’t using it one of my kids are!  I often sneak the leopard print throw in my bedroom and hide it so that when it’s time to sit down at night I can pull it out and it’s mine all mine.

After all.. moms are the ones who deserve the best, right?

;)

I hope that by sharing my favorite things it gave you some fun gift ideas for Mother’s Day!  Below are a few things I found on-line that would make fun gifts too.  Hats off to all of the hard working moms out there!  You are truly beyond amazing. :)

Organized Board Games (Sunny Side Up)

{family room sources}

Happy Friday!  Made it to the end of the week.. whew!  I’m tired.  Things are definitely back to full speed around here with all of my kids’ activities and I’m not used to this pace!  I need some serious conditioning.  Ha.  Good thing we only have about 6 weeks left of school.  I got so used to not having to drive as much and didn’t miss my former life as a taxi driver.  Cue the podcasts!  Back in the car we all go. :)

It’s time for a random Friday 5 brain dump!  Get excited. ;)

1 – Since we’re talking toy organization this week I thought I’d share my new home for board games.

Organized Board Games (Sunny Side Up)

I decided to move them all down to two of our kitchen island cupboards.  One reason I did this is because I’m using our toy/game closet in the playroom to store other things now that my kids are growing out of toys.

Organized Board Games (Sunny Side Up)

But the main reason I moved them here is because whenever we play board games we always bring them down to our family room.  It’s where the kids always want to be so it just makes more sense to have them close.  These island cupboards didn’t have much in them anyway so it was easy to clear them out and make room for games!  (You can see details on how my entire kitchen is organized here).

Organized Board Games (Sunny Side Up)

Sometimes it helps to think outside of the box when it comes to organizing.  Where does it make the most sense to store things you use?  Are systems that used to work for your family still working now?  Always good questions to ask. :)

On a sidenote.. Friday 5 pics are usually quick cell phone pics hence the lovely lighting in these.

Healthy Lunch (Sunny Side Up)

2 – I was making my lunch the other day and thought I’d snap some pics quick and share this simple lunch idea.  It has been on repeat for me for years.  I usually eat it for a few weeks and then eat my turkey sandwich for a few weeks and then I eat a chicken salad for lunch for a few weeks and then back to this salad tortilla.  Does anyone else eat the same things over and over?  It’s hard enough for me to come up with dinner for everyone every night.. I don’t want to have to think about lunch!

Healthy Lunch (Sunny Side Up)

So at the beginning of the week I wash and chop up carrots and celery and cucumbers so they are ready to go.  I buy the pre-washed Spring mix lettuce so it’s ready to go.

Healthy Lunch (Sunny Side Up)

Then all I have to do for lunch is grab a wheat tortilla and pile on lettuce, my vegetables and oven roasted sliced almonds.  I love oven roasted sliced almonds.  They just make salads happy don’t they?

Healthy Lunch (Sunny Side Up)

I top it all off with this salad dressing.  Below is the recipe.. it’s so good!  I got this dressing recipe from one of my close friends and I always think of her when I mix it up.  Love you Koni! ;)

Salad Dressing:
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 tsp basil
1/2 tsp oregano
2 minced garlic cloves
Shake well and keep in cupboard (don’t refrigerate!)

Healthy Lunch (Sunny Side Up)

Kenny calls this my “rabbit food.”  He’ll tease me about eating my rabbit food for lunch and then follow it up with “hey.. could you make one for me?”  Ha ha. It’s really good!  The carrots and celery give it a nice crunch, the dressing gives it so much flavor and it fills you up more than you think it would!  Nice and low calorie and when I eat this for lunch I feel like I can eat pizza for dinner and skittles for dessert. :)  Let me know if you try it!

Favorite Straw Bags (Sunny Side Up)

{straw circle tote/v-neck ruffle sleeve tee/initial pendant necklace/linen blend beach pants/paily heels}

3 – Ok.. remember earlier this month when I shared a few cute clothes I got for spring/summer?  And I shared this cute straw circle tote?

Favorite Straw Bags (Sunny Side Up)

{Tory Burch Ella Tote}

Then my friend dropped by (with diet cokes of course) to chat and catch up and show me her new bag.  Gah!  Isn’t it cute!?  Love it.

Favorite Straw Bags (Sunny Side Up)

{straw circle tote/ravi straw backpack/plush shag rug}

Then soon after she left this cute straw backpack I ordered showed up on my doorstep.  I have been looking for a mid sized backpack that could double as a purse for a while now and I’m so excited about this!

Favorite Straw Bags (Sunny Side Up)

I snapped a pic with it quick to show you the size.  It has adjustable straps and can hold everything I keep in my purse with room to spare.  Not too big and not too small.  It’s PERFECT.

Favorite Straw Bags (Sunny Side Up)

{tie sleeve blouse (on sale!)/ravi straw backpack/ag jeans/similar peep toe booties}

I wanted a cute backpack purse because sometimes I just want to have my hands free!  This will be so nice for summer travel, theme parks (I miss Disneyland!) the pool or just heading to the grocery store.  (Sidenote.. I’ve shared this tie sleeve blouse before but I honestly keep reaching for it about once a week so I’m sharing it again.  It’s so lightweight and cute!  Hangs a little longer in the back.  It also looks really good tucked in with a pencil skirt and was just marked down!  It comes in white and red too.

4 – Since I’m on a straw bag kick I decided to round up some cute options!  Straw bags signal spring and summer and sunshine and always put me in the best mood.  Do you love them too?  I had so much fun rounding these up and adore every bag below. :)

Favorite Straw Bags (Sunny Side Up)

1- anya tote     2- ella straw basket tote   3- straw crossbody bag. 4- straw circle tote

5- waves straw tote   6- celeste straw tote  7- chic diary shoulder bag   8- luxe striped tote bag

9- straw backpack  10- halo bag   11- colourblock straw bag   12- woven tote handbag

Balloon Arch (Sunny Side Up)

5 – When I moved to San Diego I did a really smart thing and made lots of great friends.  I made sure that they were kind, honest, loyal people.  I also made sure that they were older than me.  Ha.  Kidding!  Kind of.  For some reason I’m the baby of my group of friends and I have to say that it has served me well through the years. ;)  Last weekend one of my close friends turned 50 and we had the best time throwing a party for her!  It was an 80’s themed party and I joined a few other friends to work on the decor.  We were so proud of ourselves for pulling off a balloon arch!

Balloon Arch (Sunny Side Up)

I snapped these pics from a video so they might look a little blurred but I wanted to show you some of the things we used if you ever want to attempt this for a party yourself.

Balloon Arch (Sunny Side Up)

This electric balloon pump and balloon tying tool saved us!

Balloon Arch (Sunny Side Up)

The decor was 80’s but nobody was going to dress up.  Then at the last minute some of us decided to dress up but there was NO time to order 80’s gear.  Lucky for me I had this hot pink baby in storage!  Ha ha.. one of my high school dance team warm ups.  I actually graduated in 95′ (told you I’m the baby of my friends.. they were teasing me about being 3 in the 80’s!) but this number works for 80’s or 90’s.  I know you’re all dying for the link to it so you can wear one too.. so sorry to disappoint. ;)  Happy birthday to my beautiful friend Darci who seriously looks 29!

Balloon Arch (Sunny Side Up)

Kenny came up with his outfit in 10 minutes too.  Kind of sad it was so easy for us to pull these clothes out of our closet!  Kenny was cracking me up.. his look was Journey meets Richard Simmons?  Who knows!  I wish we would have taken more pics!  We went home with no voices because of all of the singing and dancing.  We turn a little wild when you put us in clothes from our glory days. ;)

Didn’t the balloon arch turn out fun!?  We were so impressed with ourselves that we pulled it off!  I linked everything we used below.. it wasn’t too hard.. just time consuming to blow up all of those balloons!

Balloon Arch (Sunny Side Up)

1- balloon column stand kit   2- 50 pack neon balloons  3- arch balloon kit

4- tying tool device   5- electric balloon pump   6- balloon arch stand kit

That’s it for 5 things on Friday!  Where I promise random and deliver on that promise. ;)

Enjoy your weekend everyone! :)

xoxo, Erin
