Cleaning Favorites (9 under 90!)

Spring Cleaning Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Happy Friday everyone!  What a week.  It was full of teenage nerves and emotions at our house with lots of things for my girls ending and tryouts for new things about to start.  Kole looked up at me at one point during the week and said “mom.. I think it’s about time that you me and dad move out…”  Ha!  The funny part was that he wasn’t kidding and we almost took him up on his offer. ;)  Thankfully we all survived the week and will live to tell about it, but this mom is looking forward to a calmer week ahead!

When I do have busy, stressful weeks I tend to turn to my go-to stress reliever.. cleaning and organizing!  After girlfriend time it’s the best therapy out there. :)  I thought it would be fun to share a few recent favorites in that category for my 9 under 90 series!

Spring Cleaning Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

(All products are linked below!  Affiliate links are used.)

1 – Micro Cleaning Cloths    2 – Scrub Daddy Scrubbers   3 – Bona (4 piece hardwood floor care system)  4 – Fridge and Freezer Bins  5 – Handheld Cordless Vacuum  6 – Battery Organizer Storage Case  7 – Mop and Broom Holder  8 – Pantry Labels  9 – Wayfair Basics Laundry Sorter

Number 1 and 2 my friends have raved about so I just ordered them both to try.  Number 3 is my all time favorite for cleaning my wood floors.  I have this exact set and have used and loved it since we moved into our new house!  I just replace the main cleaner when I run out.  (You can buy refills on Amazon or at Costco).  Number 4 is a great deal on fridge organization favorites.  Number 5 is an absolute staple.  Number 6 is a recent favorite I’m loving that I shared in this favorites post.  Number 7 is a must have for broom/mop organization.  Number 8 – the cutest pantry labels I found for a steal!  And number 9 – these are on sale and a perfect solution to get your laundry under control.  I love my built-in hampers so much and these are the next best thing if you don’t have the room for built-ins.

I hope you enjoyed my 9 recent favorites!  I’d love to hear if any of these are also on  your favorites list!?

Spring Cleaning Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I got this Dyson handheld vacuum in the Fall and I’ve loved it so much!  I use it almost every day for quick cleaning.  I’m buying the one I shared above (less expensive and it has great reviews) to keep in my bedroom/bathroom.  Handheld vacuums are perfect to have close by for cleaning out drawers, the car, small spills, etc.  I’m a fan. :)

My last (and first!) 9 under 90 post was on cute Spring sandals and you can find links for all of the above sandals here if you missed it!

Also thank you for all of the kind words about my last tablescape post!  I linked all of the dishes, etc. in that post but was flooded with questions about all of the other larger room sources so I’ll share links to them below!  My table was from Restoration Hardware, but I’ll also link a less expensive farmhouse table that I found and love.

I hope you have a great Friday!  I have more to share with you all this weekend so pop back in soon!  I’m looking forward to a few days of less driving and less drama.  Fingers crossed that will be the case because I’m finally getting around to decorating a few spaces that have been on my list for years!  It would be a serious shame if Kole makes me move out before I have time to finish.

Spring/Summer Tablescape

*Huge thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post! (Affiliate links used)
Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)We are a low key family when it comes to meals and most of the time we eat dinner gathered around our kitchen island, outside when it’s warm or sometimes for me (when things are really busy like during the crazy month of May) fine dining takes place in my car. :)  I know this about us so when we built our house I told my husband that we didn’t need a formal dining room.  That it wouldn’t get used much and was a waste of space.  He insisted that we add one to the plans and I have to say.. that is one debate I’m happy I lost!  I have loved our formal dining room!  This space gives me the opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone and entertain more.  I used to never have people over to eat because I’m not a great cook and it always seemed too expensive and so much work.

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

I have found that is absolutely not true!  Once I got past my own fears and just started doing it more I realized that it doesn’t matter what you’re serving or how fancy your table looks.  It’s really just about bringing people together to relax, talk and enjoy each other’s company.  I’ve had friends over to just have a big chicken salad for lunch or in the evening for pizza, chips and diet cokes!  I’ve also learned that it’s not hard to set a beautiful tablescape for guests without spending much.

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)This entire Spring/Summer tablescape is from Walmart!  Walmart you guys.  I’m obsessed!

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

These beautiful pink and coral dishes are the Vintage Floral dinnerware set from the Flower Line Walmart did in collaboration with Drew Barrymore.  I’ve been adding pops of navy, coral and pink to my home for the past couple of years so I was thrilled when I found these!  (They also come in just pink and navy if you aren’t into coral.)  I got new simple white dishes for my birthday this year and had been looking for a fun floral set to entertain with that didn’t cost too much.  These are beautiful!  I’m finally passing on the dishes we’ve been using for over 20 years since our wedding.

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

I love the larger simple plates too for every day.  The set comes with these two plates, a pink bowl and a small navy bowl.  I also got these cute gingham placemats from Walmart and love them with the floral plates!  Gingham and floral is a fun summer combo.  The gingham would be cute for the 4th of July too!

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

The clear glass vases I used for my centerpiece are also from Walmart.  The two side vases were only $4 each!  I picked up some flowers from the grocery store to make these arrangements but you could also just pop in some flowers or branches from your yard.  I thought it might be fun to add some after dinner chocolates inside the small navy bowls. :)

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

Another favorite Walmart find are these cute gingham pillows!  You guys.. I’m not joking – they are big and such amazing quality for $12!  They come in other colors too.  My friends didn’t believe me that all of this was from Walmart.  I hardly believe it myself!

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

I also picked up this pretty pink throw to drape over my chair.

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

I found this beautiful navy vase for my console table and the navy ceramic side table is also from the Flower Line collection.  I keep moving it around because it looks good in so many of my spaces.. outside too!  I bought the coral ombre ceramic table for my family room.  I LOVE them and they cost so much less than I’ve spend on similar garden stools.  I still need to style my console table more but I’m so happy to have my art up!  This room is finally coming together.

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

I moved one of my faux fig trees in this corner of the room and this macrame basket was perfect to hold it!

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

This basket is one of three (they came in a set) and I’m going to use the other two in our playroom or the kids’ rooms for stylish storage.  So cute.. the Flower Line has these baskets in several color options!  I’m telling you this line is too much fun.

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

The new art I got for my family room is also part of the Flower Line!

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

I hope you all like this Spring/Summer tablescape!  The colors make me so happy.  We are nearing the end of the school year and are in serious countdown mode.  2 weeks for Addison, 2 1/2 weeks for Kole and 3 weeks for Ellie.  Easy breezy summer days are calling my name!

Spring/Summer Dining Tablescape (Sunny Side Up)

Time to get my husband grilling!

I’ll set the table. :)

Fashion Friday (Spring/Summer Favorites!)

*Huge thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!  Our one stop shop for clothes this Spring/Summer. :)  Affiliate links used.
Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Celine Throw}

Happy Friday everyone!  Or Saturday, Sunday or Monday depending on when you read this. :)  Made it through another week in May.. success!  I really don’t like to wish away time but I have to admit.. I’m excited to get to the end of this busy month!  Lazy days by the pool are calling my name and I’m ready to answer. :)  I can’t thank you all enough for the kind, uplifting comments, emails, DM’s, etc. after my last 10 Habits of Happy Moms post.  I’m thrilled that so many of you enjoyed that post and that it resonated with you.  I also loved hearing from so many of you!  Blogging can feel lonely sometimes!  Just me and my projects, pictures and computer working away :) so I especially love days when I get to interact with you all.  I’m very grateful for your kind words and support!  I say this a lot but it really does mean so much to me.

Fashion Friday is on the agenda today!  I actually started my Fashion Friday posts years ago after I had Kole (my last baby).  I had worked hard to exercise and eat healthy and lose most of the baby weight and was excited to be DONE with maternity clothes.  I wanted to have a big party to watch them all burn!  Ha. ;)  I learned quickly after becoming a stay at home mom that I was always in a better mood when I got ready for the day.  (Another happiness tip that I briefly touched on in my last post.. looking your best so that you can feel your best.)  I started these posts to help motivate me to get dressed and ready each day!  Even if my only outing was a trip to the grocery store I just felt better about myself and in a better mood when my hair was done and I had on real clothes and a little make-up.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

Those early Fashion Friday posts are hilarious to me now!

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

Aside from the poor picture quality Kole makes a lovely debut in almost every picture.

He has always worked hard to make things so easy for me. ;)

Fashion Friday posts still help me with that to this day.  When you work from home and have an obsession with pajamas and being comfortable it can be really tempting to just not get ready.  But I’ve always found that while that feels good at first, it usually leads to a slumpy day for me.  I don’t make as good of food choices when I’m in baggy pj’s or sweats and I don’t have the energy and confidence I have when I feel good about how I look.  It’s a powerful thing!  How we look affects how we feel and how we feel directly affects how we treat others.  Don’t underestimate the power of a good hair day, killer jeans and a cute new top!  If you need ideas on the cute new tops.. you’ve come to the right place. :)

The clothes I’m sharing today are all recent favorites from Nordstrom!  They have so many beautiful clothes and accessories in right now for Spring/Summer.  It’s down right dangerous.  In the best way possible.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Blue Flower Blouse/Ag Jeans here and here/Raine Espadrille Sandal/Beaded Tassel Earrings}

Cutest floral blouse for summer!  It’s lightweight and so feminine.  I wore it last week with a skirt and it looks really cute tucked in more fitted too.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Favorite shoes for summer!  Rain Platform Espadrille Sandals/Andela Slingback Espadrille Wedge/Alida Espadrille Platform Wedge/Adalyn Espadrille Wedge Sandal/Despina Strappy Sandal}

The cute wedges I’m wearing above in the first pic are these Rain Espadrille Sandals.  I ordered them in the blush and the sand color and have been living in them this Spring.  The scallop detail is so cute and they are REALLY comfortable!  I love that they look good casual with jeans/shorts but have enough detail that they look good with dresses/skirts too.  I also have a huge crush on all of the fun Marc Fisher Wedges!  Another really comfortable summer wedge that comes in lots of fun colors.  My Despina Strappy Sandals I’ve had for a few years and still love to pull them out every Spring.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Gingham Shirt/Ag Jeans here and here/Beaded Tassel Earrings/Similar Black Sandals}

You guys.  Seriously.  I know I sound like a broken record but I just can’t get enough of Madewell!  I’ve been working on cleaning my closet (for over a year now.. ha) and am honesty considering devoting one whole section to Madewell clothes.   This brand just speaks to me.  How cute is this Gingham top!?

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Hi-Fi Placed Striped Tee/Marin Sweater/Raffia Tassel Hoop Earrings/Skyline Stripe Rainbow Tee}

And I can’t get enough of all things RAINBOW!  Look at the cute shoes they have in right now.. and that necklace.  No way could I pick just one favorite..

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Tory Burch Double Wrap Bracelet/Madewell Leather Tote}

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

I have so many favorite earrings right now and these Raffia Tassel Hoop Earrings are at the top of my list!  So cute for summer and a great price for the quality.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Sincerely Jules Straw Bag}

This cute fitted tee comes in blue too and selling fast!  No surprise there.  Perfect casual top for summer!  And my Sincerely Jules Woven Shoulder Bag is back!  I carried this all over Maui and so many of you were bummed it was sold out when I shared pics of it.  YEA that it’s back in stock!  Goes so cute with the Raffia earrings. :)

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

This Marin Sweater is a little more Fallish looking but it’s such a great fit you guys.  I just ordered this one in Pearl Ivory stripe (more of a summer look) because I love it so much!  I love the neck and the sleeves.  It’s so soft and comfortable.  Fitted enough to give you a shape, but not tight.  PERFECT.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

The reason I’m loving it so much is that it’s just a different version of my all time favorite Marin Tie Front Sweater that I have in green.  I have the similar Modern tie front tee in lilac and I just ordered this one in Pearl Ivory.  Go ahead.  Try just buying ONE of these sweaters.  Not possible. ;)

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

Speaking of Madewell favorites.. my Denim Daylily dress is back!  I got this in the fall and wore it with boots but I’m so excited to wear it with sandals for Summer!  I always get compliments on this dress when I wear it.  Madewell I’m forever yours.  Here are a few other favorites on my wish list..

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

Cute Botton Front Knot Hem Tee.  Also comes in grey!

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

This Embroidered Slub Knit Tank is another recent favorite.  I love cap sleeve tanks and this one comes in so many fun colors!  Would be really cute in white too.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

And how cute are these Resin Triangle Drop Earrings!?  They are beautiful in person!  And so fun with this green tank.. really with anything green, blue or white!  Madewell of course.  Sorry but not sorry. :)

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

Cute Sunetta Oracle Fitted Tee!  Florals are always fun this time of year.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

Ok.. next favorite summer top on the list.. this white Pleat Linen Blouse.  I love the pleats!  One of my biggest pet peeves with white tops is when they are too thin and see through.  This blouse is thick so it’s not see through at all – a relaxed fit – and has such pretty details on the sleeves and neck.  It also comes in pink and grey!

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

Aren’t the sleeves pretty!?  I had to get a quick picture after I finished these flower arrangements for a tablescape I’m sharing soon!  I was quite proud of them because I sort of fake my way through flower arrangements.  Ha.

Hydrangeas, white linen tees and plants in my kitchen window.  Must be summer!

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

These Marinella Fringe Drop Earrings are also really cute for summer!

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

I’ve also been wearing my white blouse with these casual Linen Jogger Pants.  These are so comfortable and light weight for summer.  You all know how I feel about joggers!  They are basically dressy sweats.  You FEEL and look good, but also get the comfort factor.  And that’s precisely why I’m a fan. :)

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Beaded Tassel Earrings/Marinella Fringe Drop Earrings /Oversize Orchid Earrings/Raffia Tassel Hoop Earrings/Similar White Tassel Earrings/Resin Triangle Drop Earrings}

I’m so into fun earrings right now!  They really add that extra something to every outfit.  These are my recent favorites that will be on repeat all summer!

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{Linear Drop Earrings/gold hoops sold out – I love these flower hoops too}

I also just got these in the mail today!  They are both from Rachel Parcel’s new collection.  So pretty.

Fashion Friday (Sunny Side Up)

{INDOORSY Graphic Tee/Similar Black Adidas Sneaker}

Since we can’t end the post on too dressy of a note because it just wouldn’t be me.. here is my recent favorite graphic tee.

INDOORSY

I couldn’t have said it better myself. :)

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

10 Habits of Happy Moms

Easter (Sunny Side Up)

I hope all of you beautiful moms had a happy Mother’s Day on Sunday!  We had a nice low key day and it was fun being spoiled by my crew.  I was getting Kole ready for school this morning and he said “well.. are you sad mom?  Your special day is over.”  Ha!  Harsh right?  I looked at the breakfast dishes and thought yup.. back to reality. ;)

I’m going to detour quickly just today from home decor, organization and fashion so pop back in for my next post if you come here solely for those things!  I’ve been a mom now for over 15 years and while I hardly feel like that has made me an expert on the subject (right.. ha) I do feel like I have learned and grown so much since I brought my first sweet baby girl home from the hospital.  I was thinking a lot last week about motherhood and the ups and downs I’ve had throughout the years and if there is one thing I’ve learned it’s this: if you are a happy person, truly happy inside, you will be able to give your kids all that they need to be happy and feel loved and successful.  It’s really all about getting in a good place with yourself so that you can endlessly give back to your kids.  In the past 10 plus years I’ve been blogging I often get asked how I always seem to be so happy.  I assure you I have my not so sunny days!  We all do.  But overall.. I really am genuinly happy and there are things I work hard to prioritize that help me stay positive every day.  I’ve seen other happy moms with these same habits and wanted to share them with you.  We’ve all heard these things before, but if you’re a mom and are struggling right now (we have all struggled at one point or another!) really focusing on one or two of these things might help.  These habits have all helped me immensely in this journey of motherhood and have made me a better person overall.

1 – Pursue a hobby/passion/outlet – It’s so easy to lose yourself once you become a mom.  Being a mom is 24/7.. it never stops!  You need an outlet that is just for YOU.  Not something that involves your kids or spouse.  When my girls were around 2 and 4 years old I felt so lost.  I was a stay at home mom and I loved it, but it was hard being home with my little girls all day and Kenny was so busy at work.  I had always loved writing and taking pictures so I started blogging as a fun outlet in the evenings when my girls were asleep and Kenny was still working.  I also spent their nap time scrapbooking as a creative outlet and I joined a gym with a great daycare and started taking aerobics classes a few times a week because in high school and college I loved dancing.  I looked forward to those outlets every day and when I was doing those things I felt more like myself than I had in a long time.  Doing things I loved each day gave me a boost so that the rest of the time when I was on mom duty I was happy and in a good mood and could handle all the things my girls dished out.  9 princess dress outfit changes a day?  Pulling your sister’s hair?  Fishy crackers all over the floor?  No biggie.. bring it on. ;)  What do you love to do that makes you feel excited and alive?  Take a salsa or tennis class, bake desserts, try out for a part in a community play.. whatever it is that brings you joy and happiness outside of being a mom – do it!  You can’t wait for when things “calm down.”  Things NEVER calm down when you have kids (another truth I’ve learned!).  Schedule time in your calendar for your hobby/outlet and then stick to that appointment for yourself like you would for a doctor appointment!  It doesn’t mean you don’t prioritize your kids.  You can be completely there for them and still have something for yourself.  You might have to cut out some TV time or a little sleep (unless those are your happy outlets.. ha!) but you can make it happen if you care enough to make it happen.

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Life with my girls before little brother came along. :)

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

(I know some of you originally found me because of my early scrapbooking posts!)

2 – Stay productive – Everyone might not feel this way, but I know for me that I’m so much happier when I feel productive.  Days when I accomplish something are always good days for me and as a direct result of my good day I’m more patient and upbeat with my kids.  It doesn’t matter if it’s something as simple as cleaning out a junk drawer.  I just feel happy when I feel like I’ve accomplished something that I care about so I make sure to plan my day and always allow time for the to-do’s that are important to me.  I don’t mean just being busy and putting out fires all day!  Cleaning the kitchen for the 6th time doesn’t count. :)  I mean setting aside time to focus and get something done that is on my goal/priority list so that when I’m spending the rest of the day doing mom activities I still feel accomplished. Not that the mundane mom duties aren’t important!  They are.  But sometimes they can feel.. mundane. :)

(Now that my kids are in school this is easier, but when they were little we would always have “nap/quiet time” in the afternoon and they went to bed earlier at night so I used those times to accomplish things that were important to me.  I would also organize our home while my kids were playing in the same room they were in.  I was spending time with them while also getting something done that was important to me.)

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)
3 – Exercise – Honestly moving every day even if it’s just for 20 minutes makes such a HUGE difference for me when it comes to my mood.  That endorphin rush is real!  I love to start my day with a quick walk/run or exercise class or something.  It immediately puts me in a better mood and makes me happy.  We all know that when we look and feel better about ourselves we behave better to the people around us.  When my girls were little I loved taking them for walks in our jogging stroller (seriously a good jogging stroller is the best investment you can make when you have small kids!).  Fresh air also does wonders for your mood.

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Ellie and I went on walks every morning.  Getting outside was a huge help to me in those early years of motherhood!

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Really all of my kids lived in jogging strollers. :)

The best for me is when I can exercise with a friend or two which leads me to my next tip..

4 – Prioritize time with friends – Moms.. this is HUGE.  It’s so important to surround yourself with friends who are going through similar mom struggles.  Spending time laughing and venting with close friends about the ups and downs of life with kids is hands down the best therapy out there!  You can gain so many ideas from each other and more than anything it just helps to know that you’re normal!  You’re not going crazy.. your struggles are real and common to most moms.  Spending time with friends is such a happiness boost and I can always tell by my mood when I’ve gone too long without girlfriend time.  If you don’t have a close circle of mom friends get out of your comfort zone and create one!  When I quit teaching to stay home with Ellie I was so lonely.  We had just moved into a new city and a new neighborhood and all of the friends I had made in San Diego were working.  I had seen young kids in our neighborhood but didn’t know anyone.  Feeling depressed and lonely one day I made flyers.  Flyers you guys!  I’m not kidding.  Although I kind of wish I was. ;)  I hung them on all of the mailboxes in our neighborhood and delivered them door to door.  They said “If you have kids come to the cul – de – sac at 4:00 on Thursday!  Kids can play and moms can chat!”  I was SO nervous no one would come!  I took Ellie who was about 14 months old at the time and went to the cul-de-sac Thursday at 4:00 and to my relief 4 other moms came with small kids!  We all met and had so much fun getting to know each other while the kids played.  We decided we’d meet the next Thursday too.  People in the neighborhood saw us and started hearing about our group in the cul-de-sac and before long we had about 15 moms and over 30 kids meeting once a week for the neighborhood play date.  We met every Thursday for years!  We all became close friends and even though now most of us have moved out of that neighborhood we still keep in touch and get so excited to see each other.

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

(I couldn’t find a picture of us all in the cul-de-sac even though I know I have one!  But this was dinner with a few of my neighborhood mom friends over 10 years ago.  We also started doing moms night out once every other month too!)

I honestly think about our playgroup and can’t believe I dared to initiate it all!  But I did and having mom friends when my kids were little truly saved me.  I really believe that you get back from this world what you put into it so get out there and make new friends.  Invite someone to lunch or invite a couple of moms to meet you at a local park.. make flyers if you have to!  Just put yourself out there, find your tribe and then be there for them and their kids.  Because they will be there for you and yours and having close friends like that will bring a lot of happiness into your life.  (On a side note.. it’s so important to choose your friends wisely!  Spend time with people who work hard, are positive and uplifting and who truly want what’s best for you and your kids.  Stay away from moms who are all about gossip, competition and negativity.)

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

So grateful for all of my amazing friends!

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Me with 3 of my besties.  We thought we deserved pedicures and diet cokes last week for mother’s day.  I think we were right. :)

5 – Prioritize your marriage – This is so important and can be such a struggle when you have kids.  It’s so easy to lose sight of the relationship you and your husband have with each other when kids come into the picture.  They have a way of taking over and monopolizing every minute of your life!  There’s the obvious solution to schedule date nights but I think it’s also important to find other ways to squeeze in alone time with your spouse.  Kenny and I have always loved going on walks or hikes together.  We try to fit in a quick walk whenever we can.  Sometimes it’s on a week night during a quick 50 minute break in-between driving our kids to activities.  Sometimes it’s early on a Saturday morning before our teenage girls wake up while Kole watches cartoons.  Whenever we have to run quick errands on weekends we go with each other and leave the kids home as much as we can.  Any extra time we can sneak in together is precious because with three kids we are usually in divide and conquer mode going in different directions.  Costco runs are more fun with each other and just spending any time together to laugh and talk and not think about the kids is a good thing!  We were just talking today about how we need to schedule more quick over night trips together on weekends.  It’s hard to get away when you have kids and so many activities going on.  We’ve found the key is scheduling it in advance and then prioritizing it.  If you can’t afford a sitter work out a trade with a close friend.  We used to do that a lot when my girls were little!

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Getting together with other couples is also something we want to prioritize more.  So nice to take a night off from being mom and dad and just relaxing with couple friends!

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

6 – Take care of yourself – I feel more strongly about this every year!  It really is just re-iterating the things I mentioned above, but honestly.. you can only be the best mom to your kids if you feel good yourself.  Drink water, exercise, get enough sleep (my constant struggle I’m trying to prioritize this year!), make time for things you love.  If you don’t do things like this often you might feel a little selfish when you start prioritizing yourself.  Moms are used to taking care of everyone else first.  But I promise.. the more you focus on fitting in the things you need to feel happy the more you’ll see what a positive impact it has on your whole family.  You’ll be less snappy and won’t feel exhausted and resentful when so many things fall on you.  Because let’s face it.. a lot falls on mom every day!  Tell yourself that when you’re taking care of yourself you are really taking care of your family too because you absolutely are.  You’ll be able to give them your best self instead of your tired, overworked exhausted self.

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

I try to take a bubble bath once a week!  (Usually on Friday nights.)  It’s one of my favorite ways to relax.

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

I light my candles and dim the lights and just soak. :)  I always feel so happy and relaxed after a hot bath!

7 – Don’t compare –  This is hard to do but honestly the quicker you learn to not compare yourself to other moms the happier you’ll be.  No good comes from comparison!  Everyone is different with different life situations and different kids and we all have different strengths and weaknesses.  It’s so important to focus on what you’re doing right and take the pressure off of yourself!  I have a good friend who fixes her kids a big homemade breakfast every day.  Eggs, pancakes.. all the things!  My kids have been raised on cereal and instant oatmeal and get homemade breakfast on special weekends when dad is in the mood to cook. :)  I feel no shame!  And while my friend is certainly a better cook than I am, I don’t think she’s a better mom because she cooks more.  We are both good moms in different ways.  My kids might not wake up to a homemade meal every morning, but they do wake up to a huge hug and smile and a note in their lunch box and they know how much they mean to me.  Just love your kids!  Be there for them.  Do the best that you can and don’t worry about what other moms are doing.  Blogs and IG and Pinterest are so great for ideas and inspiration but if you’re following moms who make you feel like you aren’t doing a good job stop following them.  Stay in your lane and focus on being the best mom you can.  Comparison will never make you happy.  Or make you a better mom.  It’s not about being a “perfect mom” anyway.. it’s about being the perfect mom for your kids and only YOU can do that.

8 – Focus on the positive – Every single day is full of ups and downs.  It’s completely up to us to decide what to focus on.  I’m so grateful my mom was a positive, upbeat person and focused a lot on gratitude when I was growing up because it’s something that comes easily for me now.  You know the movie “Inside Out” with the cute girl Riley who moves to a new city and her emotions are the characters?  We love that movie and every time we watch it my kids tease me about being so much like “Joy” – always trying to cheer everyone up and point out the bright side of every situation.  (We have jokes about who everyone else in that movie represents in our family too. :)  I’m sure I annoy my kids that way but I feel like it’s something they have to learn!  This blog is called Sunny Side Up for a reason. ;)  I really think focusing on the positive is so important if you want to be truly happy.  I went through a really hard season before we had kids when my husband was in law school and we were living on the east coast.  I was teaching school and working jobs after school to keep us out of debt.  Kenny was studying around the clock and I was so homesick for my family and friends and life before we moved.  I decided to keep a gratitude journal because I felt so depressed and negative and it helped me immensely!  I know gratitude journals sound cheesy but you guys.. I’m not kidding.  Actually having to write down things you are grateful for really helps shift your focus.  Life is full of difficult and sad things but it’s also full of fun and wonderful things.  So is motherhood.  Choose every day to focus on the positive things.  It’s a choice you have to deliberately make.  I recently bought this gratitude journal (it’s my current favorite) if you think something like that might help you.

Gratitude jars are also great if you want to involve your kids in focusing on one thing they are grateful for each day.

9 – Establish routines and teach your kids to pitch in – Moms have a million things on their plates every day and we all know how hard it is to focus when the house is a mess and there is no order.  Also kids thrive on routine (especially young kids) so if you’re feeling like your mornings, days or evenings are stressful, take some time to look at your schedule and create some routines and order for your day.  It’s amazing how just getting a routine down for something like laundry can be life changing for your sanity!  I’ve had to do this so many times and as my kids get older and our schedule changes I have to keep tweaking our home routines so that there is a flow to our day and things get done around the house.  It’s hard to teach kids to help around the house because we (meaning all moms) can usually do it so much faster and better, but I’m telling you.. you have to take the time to teach them!  Now that my kids are older and I’m working more it is such a life saver to have their help with cleaning and laundry.  Plus kids need to learn those skills for when they have their own homes someday.  These expectation charts I shared on my blog last summer are a perfect way to get your kids helping around the house and summer is a great time to start if this is something you feel like you need more of in your life!  There have been many times that re-adjusting our routines and getting my kids to pitch in and help more has made all the difference for me and my mood!  And mom’s mood usually sets the tone. :)

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Anything that becomes a struggle I create a routine for!  This was my system for dealing with outfit drama every morning with my girls when they were younger. :)

Ten Habits of Happy Moms (Sunny Side Up)

Our Daily Expectation Charts!  The one on the left is for younger kids and the one on the right is for older kids.  You can download them for free here.  I’m definitely printing these out again in a few weeks when my kids get out of school.  We loved using them last summer.  I guess I should say I loved using them last summer.  Not sure if my kids were as enthusiastic as I was about them. ;)

10 – Spend quality fun time with your kids –  This is such an obvious thing to do but I’m always amazed at how hard it can be to carve out quality FUN time with each of my kids.  Between all of the school stuff and activities and work and  “Did you eat your breakfast?  Clean your room!  Start your homework!” There are SO many things to keep track of and so many things we have to nag our kids about all day.  I really have to focus every day on just relaxing and looking for time to spend with my kids having fun with them.  Sometimes we can do a special lunch or go on vacation, but mostly it’s important to find little pockets during regular, ordinary days when you can connect on their level.  For me this usually means listening to hip hop music in the car with my teenager and dancing together (trying to ignore all side glances at the stop light) or watching a quick TV show with Ad on the couch because she’s my child who loves to just be together and cuddle.  Or playing ball with Kole for 10 minutes in the hallway and listening with my FULL attention about his latest favorite video game and how he dominated level 4.  It’s not always easy!  Sometimes it’s hard to stop and cuddle on the couch when there is a sink full of dishes and I could care less about Plants vs. Zombies!  But I love my kids and they need my time and attention.  Even though I don’t always enjoy the things they enjoy, getting on their level and showing them that I care about them and the things they care about is what builds a good relationship with them.  Plus just laughing and having fun with my kids takes the stress out of the every day.  Laughing, talking, hugging, spending quality time with them.. often it’s in those moments that I really enjoy my role as a mom and feel so grateful for my kids.

Spring/Summer Family Room Decor

Family Room Spring/Summer Decor (Sunny Side Up)

It occurred to me last week (during the fleeting 2 hours that I had my house clean) that I never shared a Spring tour of any sorts on the blog.  I’ve been focusing my attention on a few other rooms in our house so I didn’t make any huge changes to my decor this year.  But small updates are also fun and like I said.. the house was clean.   It had to be documented. ;)  So here are a few pics of what my family room is looking like this Spring/Summer!  When things are perfectly clean.  Which is usually just on Friday mornings since Thursday is my main cleaning day.  By Friday afternoon the kids are home and the weekend hits and I say good-bye to perfectly fluffed throw pillows. :)

The new art in my family room is probably the biggest change in this space.  I wanted to bring more pink and coral into the room for Summer and love this fun print!  It wasn’t too expensive so perfect to play with for a season or two.

Family Room Spring/Summer Decor (Sunny Side Up)

{thatcher stripe chair/celine throw/chair lamp/moroccan basket/palermo throw/bliss throw/rose abstract white frame}

It’s a bit modern and doesn’t really go with the mirror so my fireplace mantel is still a work in progress.  It’s such a hard space for me to decorate!  First because it’s seriously huge.  Second because it’s right next to my decorated console table so I feel like it doesn’t ever look good when I start putting too many things on it.  Vases with flowers and things like that just look like too much because I already have that on my console.  But even though it’s not “done” I’m really loving the pop of color the art brought into the room!

I said to Kenny “what do you think about the new art?  Too modern?  Doesn’t really go with the mirror right?”  He answered “yeah.. maybe take it down.  Whatever you want.”  (He hardly even looked at the art.  He clearly cares so much about our fireplace mantel decor.)  Then I said half under my breath “or we could take down the mirror and do something else there..”  ready to bolt out of the room at a moment’s notice because I knew he’d pay closer attention to that comment!

Family Room Spring/Summer Decor (Sunny Side Up)

He answered like I thought he would.. “you’re kidding right!?  Please tell me you’re kidding.”

Our mirror was such an ordeal to hang and clearly the battle wounds are still too fresh.  I’m kind of wanting to switch it out but I knew he wouldn’t be too enthused about that plan.  It’s ok.  I’ve learned with my husband how to slowly introduce an idea I know he won’t love so that even though he doesn’t think he’s warming up to it.. he really is.  I’ll just softly throw it out there a few more times and let the idea marinate a little and then wait until the right moment when he wants to do something I’m not jazzed about to offer a fair trade.

I haven’t stayed happily married for over 20 years by mistake.  There is serious strategy involved. ;)

I did get a couple of new Spring pillows and I know I say this all the time, but I really do love the way simple changes like that makes my space feel brand new!  Our couch has seen better days and this week I’m putting on new slip covers.  YEA.  The linen fabric I chose for this couch wasn’t my smartest move with kids and you can probably see in this picture how hammered it’s getting (it looks worse in person!).  I was going to change the covers a couple of weeks ago but then decided to wait because my parents were coming into town and that usually means lots of take out and late night conversations on the couch.  I didn’t want to feel worried about keeping new couch covers clean!  Although the new fabric I chose is going to be much better for that sort of thing.

Happy weekend everyone!  I’m not gonna lie, last week was a tad brutal at our house.  Just way too much going on.  May has officially arrived!  Moms of school age kids.. brace yourselves. :)  We somehow survived and next week is looking a little calmer so I’m grateful for that!

I have SO many fun projects going on that I’m excited to share with you all!  I’m going to try to be better about sharing more progress on IG stories (I’m horrible at IG stories!) so follow me there if you don’t already and hold me accountable. :)  I’m also hoping I’ll have more time to post on the blog next week.  For today I’m popping in quickly with an old favorite post and some fun recent finds I’m excited about!

4th of July Outdoor Decor (Sunny Side Up)

Remember when I decked our outdoor space last summer for the 4th of July?  Just a few small touches and we were ready to party!  I’m hoping to get this all up earlier this month so we can enjoy it for Memorial weekend too.  I thought I’d share this post again in case any of you want to start thinking about patriotic summer decorating!

4th of July Outdoor Decor (Sunny Side Up)

This cute Liberty Burlap Party Banner was so easy to hang.  I got extremely tricky and used painters tape.. but you knew that. :)  We had one windy afternoon and one of the banners fell down so I might have to come up with something a little sturdier this year.

4th of July Outdoor Decor (Sunny Side Up)

My Flag Lumbar Pillow Covers are back in stock!  These sold out so quickly last year (so did the banner above) so don’t hesitate if you want them!  I also linked similar fun options at the bottom of last year’s post.  I want to get a couple for inside my home too!

4th of July Outdoor Decor (Sunny Side Up)

Another favorite are these Liberty Burlap Flags.  So easy to pop in a vase for a simple table centerpiece or next to food at outdoor summer BBQ’s.  Let the festivities begin!

4th of July Outdoor Decor (Sunny Side Up)

Ok.. a couple of favorites!  I shared this cute white scallop blouse in my what I wore to Maui post but it had sold out by the time I got my post up.  It just came back in stock!

4th of July Outdoor Decor (Sunny Side Up)

Perfect top for summer.  I’m so ready!  And also so not ready!  Summer brings out mixed emotions doesn’t it? :)

4th of July Outdoor Decor (Sunny Side Up)

My favorite hello mat is never in stock and I get so many questions about it.  I always share similar options, but I found the exact mat here on sale!  Btw.. for those of you who were asking about my yellow porch flowers they are called “Sweet Broom.”  I’m sad to say that they currently don’t look like they do in this picture anymore.  One of them is sort of with me still and the other.. well.. RIP Sweet Broom.  I don’t think I watered them enough.

Or I watered them too much.

The problem was definitely one or the other.  Knowing my record with living plants it’s amazing I’m trusted with 3 children.

New finds and old favorites (Sunny Side Up)

A couple new favorites!  I ordered this Flutter Sleeve Pom Pom top in white and it’s DARLING!  I’ll share a picture of it on me soon so you can see how it fits.. so cute for summer.

New finds and old favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Another new favorite is this stylish Rattan Round Tray.  Oh the possibilities with a cute tray like this!  I’ll share it styled in my home soon but I wanted to share it and the white top above quickly now because they are on sale this weekend.  Woot woot!

New finds and old favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Lastly I have an old favorite Bliss throw paired with a new favorite Palermo throw in a newish favorite Moroccan basket.  I know.. I’m getting all sorts of tricky up in here. ;)  I love these three items so much and keep moving them back and forth between my family room and living room because they look good everywhere I put them!  (Btw this Bliss throw is the color Pink Peony.  It looks orange or peach on-line, but it’s actually a perfect soft pink.)

Alright.. I’m off to bed!  Trying to prioritize sleep this month because when things get really busy around here that’s usually the first thing to go and then suddenly mom isn’t coping so well and the ship sinks fast. :)

Enjoy what’s left of your weekend friends!

P.S.   I updated my FAVORITES PAGE and all of these items I’ve shared are linked there along with other things I’m loving lately!

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start! My parents are visiting this week and it’s so nice to get to spend some time with them. It’s also so nice to have added back-up with the kids.  You mean I only have to be in my car for 4 hours tonight instead of 6? I’ll take it. :)

I’m sharing a fun gift guide for Mother’s Day today with so many cute things! Mother’s Day always sneaks up so quickly and I hate that feeling of scrambling to get a gift because I’ve put it off until the day or two before.  Especially for moms! They do so much for all of us. I asked my mom what her top picks would be from my gift guide and she loves numbers 8, 11, 14, 19, 22, 24 and 25.  That just made my life easy. :)  I love everything on this list and hope you do too!

Mother's Day Gift Guide (Sunny Side Up)

1 – Celine Throw – One of my all time favorite throws for decorating as most of you know.  I bought more than one because it looks so good in every room in my house.  To my kids.. if you need a gift idea – I wouldn’t mind another one in aqua. :)

2 – Small Square Stud Earrings – These simple, beautiful earrings look good on everyone and are perfect for Spring/Summer!

3 – Stripe Round Serving Bowl – I love this fun striped serving bowl. Perfect for summer entertaining!  It’s a little pricey, but if you’re looking for something really nice to spoil your mom with it would make a great gift.  Fun for parties but also fun to display in your kitchen.  (I’m picturing it full of green apples on the counter next to a vase of flowers!)  I love the appetizer set and other serving bowl in this collection too.

Mother's Day Gift Guide (Sunny Side Up)

4 – Somerset Bread Board – I have an obsession with bread boards and think they make perfect gifts!  Tie a pretty ribbon around one alone or add some of your favorite breads and cheeses.  (It would also be cute to pair it with this favorite book!)  Most moms would love one to display in their kitchen and then use it for meals/serving.  (You can see more fun bread board/platter options here including the set I have above by my stove – I love them all!)

5 – Le Creuset Soup Pot – Perfect idea for the mom who loves to cook.  Another item that would be cute to pair with a favorite cook book!

6 – Kate Spade Necklace – This is one of my favorite gifts to give!  I love the dainty initial on this necklace.  I’ve given several to friends and also put an “a” and “e” in my girls’ stockings for Christmas last year.  They are always a hit!

7 – T3 Single Pass Curling Iron – Ahhh!  I’m obsessed with this curling iron!  It’s so good.  My girls keep stealing mine to use it and I can’t blame them.  Absolutely worth the price!  I bought this set but I mostly use the 1.25 inch size wand.  Here are other T3 hair products.. I would love to see if the straight iron is as good as the curling iron.  (hint hint to any family members reading.. girls tell your dad to chip in.) ;)

Kitchen Shelf Styling (Sunny Side Up)

(shelf sources in this post)

8 – Kitchen Aid Mixer – Every mom needs one of these!  Even if like mine it gets less use and just looks cute in the kitchen. :)

9 – Ceramic Ring Dish Plate – Such a cute little dish for jewelry or office supplies!  And a good reminder for mom. :)  This one is cute too.

10 –  “Amazing Grace” Shampoo, Bath & Shower Gel – I have this in my shopping cart and can’t wait to try it.  I always hear great things about it!

11 – Naya Short Robe – Always a fun gift for cozy days at home or to put on right after a shower.  This robe comes in lots of colors.. I’m loving the blush, night blue and ivory!

12 – DiorShow lash Primer – My favorite lash primer!  I give this for gifts a lot too and everyone I’ve given it to has loved it.

13 – Magic Bullet Blender – I can’t believe how much we love and have used this little blender!  You can throw together a smoothie so quickly.  It’s easy enough for my girls to use on their own too which is so nice.  Addison’s favorite is this Pina Colada mix.  She just tosses some in the magic bullet with ice and has a delicious after school snack!

14 – Liyln Faux Leather Tote – Such a cute pink tote for Spring/Summer!

15 – Willa Zip Pouch Bag – I also love this cute little clutch with tassels.

16 – Little Steamer Deluxe – Another new favorite of mine!  I shared it in my most recent favorites post.  Game changer!

17 – My Amazing Blow Dry Secret – Hands down my favorite dry shampoo.. and I’ve tried LOTS!

18 – Apple AirPods – Who says the teens get to have all of the AirPod fun?  (Kenny.. I’m tired of borrowing Ellie’s and want my own!)

19 – Zella Crop Leggings – My close friend has these and I’m buying a pair!  Zella is always a good thing and the side pocket is perfect for your cell phone.  I have a feeling they will be my favorites for walks and runs with friends!

20 – Williams Sonoma Striped Dishclothes – My favorite dishcloths.  Sometimes the essentials like this make the best gifts!

21 – Lucite Salad Serving Set – When this post goes live and my friends see it they will laugh and tell me I need to get myself the salad serving set!  I don’t own salad servers and am always borrowing them from friends when I entertain.  My friend Katy (who helped with the food for my Christmas party) and I always laugh about the types of kitchen items I don’t have but should.  Basically if it doesn’t double as decor, I’m not interested. ;)

Mother's Day Gift Guide (Sunny Side Up)

22 – Moonlight Short Pajamas –  CUTEST summer pj’s!  I love the prints on these and they look so comfy!  If you like long pant sets better these lazy day camo pj’s are my top pick!  No surprise there.  Similar to the set I live in above. :)

Mother's Day Gift Guide (Sunny Side Up)

(Ad’s photo display wall)

23 – Canon Wirless Photo Printer – Moms ALL need this in their lives!  When I think about all of the “about me” posters and different projects I’ve had to help my kids with (hundreds!).. they all involve pictures.  How handy to plug in your phone and instantly print exactly what you need!  Also so fun and easy to swap out pictures for bulletin boards and frames around the house.

24 – House Visit Deep Clean – One of the best gifts you can give any mom is a clean house.  Did you know you can do this through Amazon?  I hired cleaners for my mother-in-law for a day last year and she said it was one of the nicest gifts she has ever been given.  Such a treat to have someone else do the deep cleaning for a change!

25 – Epson Color Photo Scanner –  If your mom has older pictures that she wants to preserve this photo scanner looks like a dream!  You can create enlargements, scan slides, negatives and film.  It will also remove the appearance of tears and creases from damaged photos.  Such a perfect gift.  My mom would love this!  I should say she “will” love this. :)

If you still need more ideas you can check out my Mother’s Day Gift Guide from last year.  A lot of the same types of things because they are my favorite gifts.  I hope this helps you find something special for the moms in your life!  And if you’re a mom.. maybe this will help give your family a nudge in the right direction. :)

Easter (Sunny Side Up)

{flutter sleeve dress}

Hello friends!  I hope you all had a nice Easter weekend!  We had a great one despite a teary moment I had prepping Easter baskets the night before.  Filling my girls’ baskets with make-up instead of bubbles and remembering 2 minutes ago when Ellie looked like this..

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

kind of hit all at once.  That happens to me from time to time now that my girls are teenagers.  You know the saying “the days are long but the years are short?”  It really could not be more true!  But I absolutely love the stage we are in so I dried my eyes and reminded myself to keep enjoying every minute.  Teenage drama and all.  Because someday I’ll probably miss that too.

Or not. ;)

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

I’m sharing a quick organizing project with you all today!  If you look at our backyard to the right of this picture you’ll see a little walk way that goes to the side of our house.

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

We have a small outdoor pool shower and then two doors on the side.  The door on the left with the window is our outdoor pool bathroom.

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

I shared pictures and details about our outdoor pool bathroom in this post if you missed it and are interested!

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

{towels}

It’s a small space but greatly appreciated in the summer when my kids and all of their friends aren’t running back and forth through my house between the pool and bathroom.  My wood floors appreciate this space too. :)

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

The second door opens to a small closet that I added when we built the house to hold pool items and the kids’ outside toys.  I wish I would have taken a recent “before.”  This picture was from two years ago and last week when I decided to tackle this closet things looked even worse!  The closet had become such a mess where we all just dumped things and shut the door.  It was dirty and dusty with junk piled high.. my kids didn’t even like going in there!  None of us did.

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

I went to put away these two pool floaties we blew up for the kids to use during their Spring Break and there was no way they were going to fit.  I told myself that the next weekend I would finally clean out this closet no matter what!  I’ve honestly been saying “I’ll get to that outdoor closet soon” for the past 5 years we’ve lived in our house.

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

The weekend rolled around and there were so many more appealing things to do that I almost put it off AGAIN.  At one point Saturday Kenny asked me if I wanted to go on a walk and I said “I’d love to, but I can’t.  I have to organize our outdoor closet.”  He said “oh you can do that anytime..” and I told him that “anytime was never coming.”   It was time to just prioritize it and get it done!  So out came ALL OF THE THINGS that were living in this closet.  (Sidenote – can you see my little friend who was helping in the top of this pic?  We have the cutest bunnies that come out on our lawn every afternoon and eat our grass!  I adore them!  My husband not so much.) ;)   I swept and mopped and wiped down the entire empty closet until it looked brand new and then got rid of so many things we weren’t using anymore.

Ready to see the after?

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

So clean!  And the new floaties have a home!  And the kids can actually walk inside to get things!  And I can now breathe normally when I open this door!  And a project that has been on my list for WAY too long is finally finished!

It’s the little things.  Hooray for all of the above!

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

Pool floaties and bodyboards line up nicely to the left..

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

Then I used these large stackable baskets to hold all of the outdoor toys.  I used to have these baskets in my mudroom closet but knew at some point I would move them out here.  I originally bought them for all of the goggles and beach toys and balls!  It’s a perfect solution for this tiny space.  The stacking baskets hold a lot and the kids have easy access to all of their things.

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

We have our water heater in this closet so I just used some space to the side of it for more pool toys and dusted everything off.

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

Feels so nice to actually see the floor of this little closet!

Outdoor Pool Organization (Sunny Side Up)

I try to keep pool “stuff” to a minimum, but I know we’ll end up with more toys/floaties during this summer because the kids often get stuff like that for gifts and we have several floaties we just haven’t blown up and used yet.  My plan is to add some vertical storage to the top of this closet.  Maybe a couple of shelves?  I want to make sure there is room for tall things on the left, but it would be great to maximize and use more of that empty space at the top of the closet.  I’ll keep you updated on that one!

For now I’m just thrilled to finally have this done.  You guys.. 5 YEARS!  5 years I put this off!  We’ve hated this space and it hasn’t been functional for the past 4 summers.  It took me ONE HOUR to whip it into shape and now my kids love it and will have a nice place for all of their outdoor toys.  I can’t believe I didn’t clean and organize this closet sooner.  That is honestly the main reason I’m sharing this tiny pool and toy storage makeover with you all today.  To remind and motivate us all to just DO THE THING that we keep putting off!  I had put this off so long that I’d built it up in my head thinking it would be such a huge, awful project.  It was a piece of cake once I just decided to jump in and do it!

If there is something on your to-do list that you keep procrastinating and putting off I’m encouraging you to schedule a day/time on your calendar and just KNOCK IT OUT.  I have a feeling it will be easier to tackle than you think!  That was my takeaway from this little one hour project that should have been done 4 1/2 years ago.

Lesson is learned.  Rant is over.  Closet is clean.

My work here is done.

For today.  :)

El took her favorite backpack.  These are all over her high school – they are big with teenagers!  They come in LOTS of fun colors and options.  I told her I liked hers so much I might get one for me.  Apparently the backpacks are cool.. but matching your mom – not so much.  :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

We made it to our favorite spot in Maui and it felt so good to say good-bye to schedules and activities and homework and cleaning and ALL of the every day things for a week!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Our room view.. that ocean could not be more beautiful!  I’ll share lots of Maui tips and all we do there in a future post!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

We’re never in Maui long before we hit the beach!  This floral off the shoulder mini dress is such a cute cover-up.  Lightweight, flattering and so comfortable.  My circle beach bag sold out soon after my swim-suit/straw bag round-up post, but there are already so many cute new similar options in stock!  I have a serious crush on this straw tote too.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Beach = happy kids.  Happy kids = happy mom. :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Of course it’s not long after the beach before my husband hits his vacation stride.  Looks like Kole’s “friend” came in handy after all.  Ha.  I always think it’s cute the way my husband sleeps with a slight smile on his face.  He was OUT when I took this pic.  Nap time = happy husband and dad.  :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

This Isabella wrap dress is hands down a favorite.  Such a great fit and such a great price!  It comes in lots of styles and patterns.  I’m partial to the green.. but you already knew that. ;)  I know I’ll wear this A LOT this summer over my swimsuit.  I love having cute lightweight dresses I can throw on over my suit when we go from the pool or beach to lunch.  This dress also looks adorable on Ellie (my 15 year old – we’re sharing this one!) so a cute option for teenage girls too.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

I only got one picture before the wind kicked up and the rest of them looked like this one.  Or worse! :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

So cute for summer!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

To be honest I’m surprised that my Stripe Rafia Tote is still in stock.  LOVE this bag for the pool or beach!  It’s a perfect size to hold all of the sunscreen, water bottles, etc.  I also bought these Havaiana flip flops for the trip and they are my new favorites.  So comfy and the neutral color works with any and all outfits.  Kole is wearing his favorite Natives – BEST shoes for kids in the summer!  We’ve been getting a new pair every spring for years. :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Having teenagers who are always on their phones can be a major pain, but there are some perks!  They take lots of pictures and every now and then I find gems like these my daughter snapped of me and Kole walking and talking.  My husband always teases me about how close the two of us are.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Kind of inseparable since the day he was born and I wouldn’t have it any other way. :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

We were on a mission heading to get Shave Ice before we hit the pool!  Kole’s favorite thing to do on the islands.  All the miles traveled and money spent for a trip like this and his highlight is a $4 icy treat.  Go figure. :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Then again once you’ve had shave ice in Maui you kinda see why he feels that way.  The absolute best!  My white scallop trim top sold out but is still available in plus size!  I love white tops with denim in the spring and summer.  This cute white top and this pretty lace top are similar fun options and these are similar denim shorts.  The white beaded tassel earrings I’m wearing are also summer favorites!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Cute yellow top that screams happy!  I love J Crews perfect fit tops for when I’m going to be out in the sun all day because they have longer sleeves and cover my skin up to my neck.  Less sunscreen!  Perfect to put on over a suit when you’re worried about too much sun.  They really do have a great fit too.  A spring/summer wardrobe essential and they come in lots of colors and are 50% off!  I’m picking up another one.  SCORE.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

These black Nike running shorts are long time favorites and I already confessed my obsession with this adorable lilac Madewell tie front tee!  I have  been living in it!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

It’s so cute dressed up with jeans and wedges too.  Or with boys in blue shorts holding blue sharks. :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

And since we’re on a roll with pics in cute tops with Kole.. :)  I also love this blue roll sleeve tunic!  It was cute for the beach/pool but I’m also excited to wear it with jeans for more of an every day look.  You can tie the knot low or high or it’s cute with just a little tucked into your jeans.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Beach day!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Let’s talk cover-ups!  This cinch front cover up dress is so soft and pretty.  I’m wearing it with this bikini (top and bottoms).  More green and scallops of course. :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

This Ruffle Sleeve Cover-up romper is another cute option!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

I came across this pic from our trip and it reminded me of this one..

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

This was also taken in Maui a few years back.  The kids might be getting older..

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

but burying El in the sand is still a hit. :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Ok.. this Sandy Shores Striped Sweater I’m wearing is going to be such a long time staple!  I adore it!  First of all.. stripes. :)  But also it just has such a fun loose fit and it’s really cozy and lightweight.  PERFECT for the spring/summer or to keep covered on beach days.  I didn’t get a pic of it but also wore and love this cute stripe hoodie jacket.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

I didn’t get a great shot of this cute ruffle strap mini dress but it’s also perfect as a suit cover-up and comes in lots of colors/patterns.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Luckily I found these pics my girls took so you can kind of see it!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

And that’s as far as I got into the ocean that beach day!  Ha.  Sometimes I swim or snorkel, but most times I supervise, take pictures and read my book.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

In lots of green beach wear apparently. :)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

On the flip side I couldn’t get these two out of the water!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Kenny and I were able to sneak away for one evening and enjoy a quite dinner at one of our favorite restaurants – just the two of us!  Always such a treat to be able to speak in coherent sentences with no interruptions. :)  I wore this beautiful midi dress that’s supposed to be off the shoulder but I actually love it on the shoulder too.  I wrote it casual with flip flops and my new favorite orchid earrings.  Such a perfect summer dress!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Pretty evening view on our date!

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

What’s more fun to wear on cool days on the island than an Aloha Palms Graphic Sweatshirt?  Not much.

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

And eating my favorite fudge in a cozy Aloha Palms Graphic Sweatshirt?  It just doesn’t get better. :)   (similar leggings)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Well.. maybe hanging out with this crew is better.  Let’s play a fun game of can you spot my teen.  This pic was quickly followed with “Off the phone!  We’re on vacation!”

As I use my phone to take a picture. ;)

Spring/Summer Fashion (Sunny Side Up)

Maui.

Already excited for the day we can go back!

Sunday Shelfie

Kitchen Shelf Styling (Sunny Side Up)

Happy Sunday friends!

Kitchen Shelf Styling (Sunny Side Up)

Some days I have so much to tell you all.  Too much most days if we’re being honest. :)

But not today.

Kitchen Shelf Styling (Sunny Side Up)

Today I just have some pictures of the open shelves in my kitchen to share.

Kitchen Shelf Styling (Sunny Side Up)

Ready for Spring!  They feel so shiny and happy after a little update.

Kitchen Shelf Styling (Sunny Side Up)

It’s amazing how just moving a few favorite things around and styling them in a new way can make a spot in your home feel brand new.

Kitchen Shelf Styling (Sunny Side Up)

Try it today!  Spend 20 minutes re-styling a shelf.  Or a coffee table or a mantel.

See if it lifts your mood and makes a spot in your home feel shiny and happy too.

I have a feeling it will!

If you’re re-styling something in your kitchen add a few lemons.

You can’t ever go wrong with lemons.

Guess I had a little something to say today after all.

Favorite Things

March/April Family Favorites

Hello hello friends.. it’s time for March Family Favorites! In April!  And not even the beginning of April, but mid April.  So we’ll call this post my March/April Family Favorites.  There are no rules around here.. clearly. :)  These monthly picture dumps of all of the things we are loving are some of my favorite posts!  They are as random as it gets so I suppose it just adds to their random charm when I’m two weeks late sharing them.

That’s what I’m telling myself anyway. ;)

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Today (as I’m writing this) it’s April 10th and the anniversary of the day I almost lost my life.  An awful scary day that I’ll never forget, but also in some ways it was the best day.  It was also the day I survived.  Now I get to celebrate this day each year that I’m still here.. raising my kids and writing random blog posts and enjoying every minute of my life (even the tough minutes) and remembering how precious it all is.  I look like a total dork in the picture above, but I was so happy to start my new birthday tradition in March of donating blood and silently thanking those who did the same so that I could be here today.  March highlight for me!

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

(affiliate links used)

For my birthday this year I got new dishes.  The dishes we were using before these were from my wedding over 20 years ago.  We were due. :)  I looked at so many options and finally decided on ordering 2 of this Cambria 16 piece dinner set in the color “stone.”

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Then I also ordered these larger soup bowls because they will be perfect for soups and pasta.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I’m excited to finally have a full set of grown up every day dishes!  So many of our other dishes were chipped and worn out after years of use.  I’m also equally excited to re-organize my kitchen cupboards with the new dishes.  But you probably already knew that.  Pictures coming soon. :)

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Ok.. you guys know me and my obsession with frozen microwaveable food. ;)  But honestly.. these Healthy Choice Grilled Basil Chicken meals are SO good!  My new favorite!  Perfect for lunch or dinner on days I’m feeding the kids different things at different times because of their activities.  (And only 230 calories!)  Find them at your grocery store and try them and let me know what you think!

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

This is another fast frozen family favorite (say that 4 times fast!).  Sorry.. nothing but brutal honesty around here.  Sometimes we cook.

And sometimes we don’t. :)

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

This might be my favorite of ALL the favorites you guys!  We have a little phone charging station on our nightstand in our bedroom for overnight, but I wanted something in my office that all of us could use for a quick phone re-charge during the day.  I ordered this Multi Device Charging Station and am in love!  It charges 5 devices all at once and keeps things so nice and tidy!  I love the short cords.  It came with three apple cords and two USB cords so I also bought this 5 pack of apple cords because that’s what we all need for our devices.  My kids love this too!  We all have a charging spot when we aren’t using phones and sometimes on weekends when I announce a little “technology break” for family time this spot works great to hold everything.  (My kids LOVE it when I do that btw.. insert eye roll.)

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Typical after school scene.  Kole is looking as thrilled as ever to be doing his homework. Ha.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Another recent favorite.. my new Battery Organizer Storage Case!  I had a few drawers in my laundry room that were driving me crazy with loose batteries all over.  I needed to consolidate them so I started looking on-line and found this on Amazon and love it!

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

It holds so many batteries and all different sizes.  It also has a battery tester.  Not sure if I’ll ever use that but nice to have!

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I just love that it keeps things nice and organized in one spot so that if we need a battery for a toy or flashlight if the power goes out.. we’re set.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Ordered these Velvet Suit Hangers for Kenny’s suits and love them.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Ellie took some for all of her hoodies too!  A great deal on a set of really nice hangers.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I know I shared this before but this Shouldered Clear Glass Vase is so beautiful and looks good with such a variety of flowers.  Hands down a favorite for Spring!

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{top/jeans/similar purse/similar shoes/similar earrings}

This Madewell Modern Tie front Tee was a favorite last Spring that I still love and wear so I was thrilled when it came out again this year in this pretty lilac color!  I’ve been wearing it this week in Maui.. it’s so cute.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Of course all of the dresses I shared in this recent post are March favorites!  Planning on wearing this shirtdress or this flutter sleeve dress for Easter. :)

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Ad’s recent obsession is with all things Zella for girls.  This cute hoodie was a favorite for all of March and we love these socks!

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

El’s latest obsession has rubbed off on me and Addison and now we all 3 worship these elastics!  My girls inherited my super thick hair and regular elastics just don’t cut it.  We’ve tried so many options and never found anything that really worked great for pony tails and buns until these Grab and Go Ponytail Holders came into our lives!  They come in sets of 15 in lots of colors and styles and we take them with us everywhere.  They work SO well and are really comfortable.  Perfect gift for Easter baskets if you have girls!  And try them yourself too.. I don’t use anything else now!  I especially love the way they hold my hair back when I exercise.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Of course.. my new bench is a March favorite.  :)  So happy to have this spot in my home decorated!

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I’m also loving My Little Steamer!  I’ve never had a steamer until our Favorite Things Christmas party this year.  Someone brought the mini version of this little steamer and swore by it so I ordered the Deluxe version knowing I’d use it more at home than for travel.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Coming from someone who HATES to iron this steamer is a dream!  I recently bought my same Pintuck Duvet Cover for the bed in my master bedroom (replacing the old one because after a couple of years it was looking more brown than white!).  I used my steamer to get the wrinkles out and it was so easy to use!  (I had just started steaming the top in this pic.)  I’m sold!  And may never use my iron again.

I can think of worse things. :)

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Here’s a pic of what it looks like on my bed.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Wonder why our original duvet cover was starting to look dirty?  Hmmm.. one of life’s mysteries I may never solve. ;)

In other fun news, two favorite stores of mine are having major sales right now!  Wayfair is having their “WAYDAY SALE” which is the biggest sale they have each year.  If you’ve been waiting to pick up a piece of furniture now is the time.  A few things I always look for at Wayfair are decorative trays (they have a great selection), Rugs (you can get my kitchen rugs here with free shipping!), doormats, and sideboards and buffet tables (like my navy sideboard in my dining room – 28% off.. the lowest I’ve seen it!  I should have waited. ;)

Also TORY BURCH is having their Spring Event (YEA!!) – 30% off with code SPRING.  See my favorites from TB below.  I’m having a hard time picking which item to order out of the items I’m sharing (letting myself get one purse OR one pair of shoes during the sale) so if you have a favorite let me know. :)

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Last recent favorite!  My cute Kole played the part of the sun in his 3rd grade play all about the planets.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

The morning of his play my girls had off of school because it was a teacher work day so they woke up early to see their brother’s play.  A family event!  This little guy has sat through SO many dance performances and plays his sisters have been in so it was fun to all be there to support him.  He was so funny and the play was darling.

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

So for my birthday Kole gave me his card and said “mom.. there’s a joke in your birthday card.. see if you can find it.”

From your “sun” Kole.

I found his “joke” pretty quick. Priceless. :)

March Family Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

(Stripe Raffia tote/navy top, shorts/flip flops/sunglasses)

This kid really is my sunshine.  All 3 of my kids are.  Guess we’ll call them March/April favorites too. ;)

{POST SOURCES.. ALL the favorites} :)

Favorite Swimsuits, Cover-ups and Straw Bags

Favorite Swimsuits, cover-ups and straw bags! (Sunny Side Up)

Happy Sunday friends!  We made it to Maui!  Our week 3 Spring Break destination this year. ;)  Maui has been our Spring Break destination a lot of years and I know I’ve promised you all a Maui tips post.  I am determined to make that happen (working on it this week!) so if you have questions you want answered in that post let me know!  (I snapped this pic quick with my phone today straight off of the plane when we arrived at our resort.  What’s not to love about Maui!?)

I’ll also share some of the cute Spring/Summer clothes I got for the trip.  I’m so excited about the cute things I’m finding for Spring this year!  I mentioned in IG stories last week that I had been trying on swimsuits for our trip (which of course inspired an abundance of morning jogs and stair climbing.. ha) and I had a lot of requests to share my favorites that are out this year.  I’m sharing them below along with a round up of my favorite cover-ups and straw bags!  I was going to share these favorites along with the items I bought after our trip but all of the cute things are selling out so fast!  I know some of you are still in cold weather and not thinking about swim suits yet, but I’ve found that you have to be on top of swim wear every year or you aren’t left with many options.  I used to put swim suit shopping off as long as possible for obvious reasons.  Never a fun try on session for me!  But then after waiting too long to shop I would have slim options which made it an even harder try on session.  Then when I would finally find something cute, it was only available in one size.. that wasn’t mine. :)  Lesson learned!  Now I just face the music and get my swimsuit figured out early!  I also snag a cute cover-up or two while I’m at it.  Then it’s time to hit the pool, have fun with the kids and stop worrying about how I look in everything.

That’s my goal this year. :)

Favorite Swimsuits, cover-ups and straw bags! (Sunny Side Up)

(affiliate links used)

I love the look and style of every swim suit below.  For my body type I’ve found 3 brands that work especially well.. Robin Piconne (I have 3 suits similar to this one and absolutely love them!), La Blanca, and Chelsea28 (I’m in love with this Scallop Bikini and this One Piece suit..they both fit so well!)  Below are other favorite suits I found this year along with some fun cover-ups and straw bags!  I’ll have us all beach ready in no time.

Anyone want to meet me at the stairs?  Or we can pretend we did them and just meet for lunch instead. :)

I can think of worse things. :)
