Happy December to you and your family! December always sneaks up so quickly doesn’t it!? I remember thinking in March when everything shut down for the first time if we all have to stay home for two weeks why couldn’t it be for two weeks during December when it gets dark early and we are surrounded by cozy Christmas lights!? I never would have guessed that we would still be in this situation, but my feelings on that haven’t changed. If I need to spend more time at home, let it be during December! Bring on the Christmas pjs, twinkle lights, popcorn and Rudolph! And ALL of the cozy Christmas decor. Speaking of cozy decor.. it’s time to tour my Christmas family room! Grab some hot chocolate and come on over. Aside from my pink Christmas bedroom my entire home is decked in traditional red and green for the holidays and I am one happy girl. :)

Let’s start with the tree! I have Christmas trees throughout my home, but because this tree is in my family room where we all hang out it’s the tree that we spend time around and enjoy the most! There are so many fun ways to decorate a Christmas tree (and no right or wrong way to do it!) but I am personally always drawn to trees with just enough ornaments to sparkle, but not so many that you can’t still see the tree/branches. Which is why I kept our family room tree pretty simple this year. :)

Red and natural wooden beads for the garland, red berries (a staple for me because I love pops of red!), large sparkly balls, these gold mercury glass ornaments, and my favorite.. these radiant glitter gold stars (they are even more beautiful in person!).

I added candles to my top shelves (a mix of these and these) and kept the rest of my shelf decor simple with white demijohn vases, my favorite large cutting boards (back in stock!), a few gold items and a couple of my favorite reindeer friends. :)

I ordered a gold star for the top of this tree two weeks ago and it kept saying online that it was coming. I just got an email yesterday that it isn’t coming and that it sold out! What!? So I still need to get something for the top, but other than that our tree is done and I love it this year! Last year’s tree was beautiful (really I think ALL Christmas trees are beautiful!) but it just wasn’t me. I’m so happy to have my red back. :) It was also fun bringing more gold into this space! I found some beautiful wrapping paper (here and here) that coordinates for a few special presents too. And by special presents I mean the only few I’ve had time to buy and wrap. ;)

I didn’t take a close up of my coffee table display, but I kept it simple too. I’m always tempted to style this rustic coffee table with all sorts of books and vases and fun decor, but we really USE this coffee table! Every night our family hangs out in this room and our coffee table ends up covered in DVD’s and laptops and mail and Algebra books and toys and snacks and water bottles and Coke Zero cans.. ha. So I just added a round gold tray in the corner with these simple mercury votive holders (I ordered these candles to put in them) and some greenery. (I linked several beautiful round gold trays at the end of this post!)

I added my faux cedar garland all across my entertainment center and it’s much more secure this year! Last year I woke up several times in the middle of the night and ran in this room to check on it. It was hanging on by a thread and I seriously kept dreaming it was crashing down. That’s what happens when you have garland and Christmas decor in your head all day. I also added a small wreath in the middle – just tied a piece of garland around it!
Because I’m tricky like that. ;)

Similar decor on this shelf and a lot of it was from Target! I love this gold bowl and beloved books are always easy decor. (One of my favorite books, Platters & Boards, makes a great gift!)

Moving around the room to the fireplace! I shared more details and night shots in this post. Still obsessed with my hanging branch! Both of the garlands I used sold out, but below are some really good similar faux options if you’re looking.

For my console table I added some red faux flowers in a favorite white vase, a few leftover Christmas tree ornaments inside my dough bowl (sprinkled a few stars on the table!) and then candles and this beautiful winter tree wall hanging. It came in a set of two and I’ll share where the other scroll is hanging soon! Love them. :)

I have this gorgeous faux fur pillow in the corner of my couch (same pillows I used in my master bedroom). They are HUGE and the softest! And then my long time favorite red Merry lumbar pillow. I’ve had this pillow over 5 years and it’s still a Christmas favorite!

Then I used red plaid and green velvet pillows for the rest of the couch and on my fireplace hearth. And here’s a peek of my Christmas kitchen! More on that space coming soon. :)

Of course the real magic of Christmas decor happens at night. Nothing like the cozy lights of a Christmas tree. They just seem to say it’s all going to be ok.

My 3 reindeer have been enjoying this space immensely too. ;) I alway give my kids Christmas pjs around Thanksgiving so they have something fun to wear through December and this year my girls begged me for these cozy onesie reindeer costumes! Of course I couldn’t leave Kole out so he got one too. They are for adults but run on the small size. (For size reference El is wearing a medium (she’s usually a woman’s small) and Ad and Kole are both in a small.)

They really are so soft and comfy and my girls have been living in them! One advantage to at home school.. the reindeer pjs never have to come off. ;) I love that even though my kids are getting older this time of year is still so magic and special to them. They get so excited for all of our family traditions and LOVE all things Christmas. The four of us have been having so much fun decorating and watching Christmas movies and playing/singing Christmas songs and planning gifts for friends. Kenny keeps shaking his head telling them that they are all too much like their mom.
I keep reminding him that’s not such a bad thing. ;)

That’s a wrap on my 2020 Christmas family room tour! I so hope you enjoyed it. :) I’ll share a tour in IG stories soon too if you hang with me there. Enjoy your day and happy holiday decorating!
