Family Vacation Time

ski-trip-5
Hi friends!  Sorry things have been a little slow on the blog this week.  We spent last week skiing in Utah and are spending this week vacationing in Kauai.  I know.  Two weeks of vacation.. one right after the other.  One in the snow and one in the sunny tropics.  Kind of funny how it worked out that way this year (best with our schedules), but you won’t hear me complain!  I had one day in-between that we were home last Friday.  My husband had to fly to San Francisco for meetings for the day.  I spent the day washing snow suits and packing swim suits. :)  Here are a few pics of our ski trip from last week (all quick pics I snapped with my phone).  We left my 5 year old at my parents for a few days and just took the girls.  I think we’ll take him with us next year, but at this point he would rather stay and be spoiled by two sets of grandparents than come skiing with us. :)  My husband and I love to ski (a lot of our first dates were on the slopes!) and this little yearly ski trip with our girls has become a tradition since we first took them two years ago.  The four of us look forward to it so much!

Organized kitchen drawers and cupboards

coffered-kitchen-ceiling
Alright friends.  Kitchen organization.  Let’s do this.  :)  I’ve been working on getting my kitchen organized from top to bottom.  At some point I’m going to do a post that shows inside every cupboard/drawer in my kitchen – how everything is organized and where everything is located.  But that post overwhelms me because it’s so much picture taking.  So I thought I’d show you my kitchen organizing progress along the way.  Then at some point I’ll combine what I’ve shared along with a few things I haven’t shared to make one BIG organized kitchen post.  Should be a party.  :)

My favorites on sale!

Happy Valentine’s Day friends!  I hope you are enjoying the weekend!  I have to admit that my husband isn’t a huge fan of this beloved holiday.  He thinks it’s too commercial.. yada yada.. whatever.  :)  I think he panics over what to get me and it feels forced and competitive (“what did YOUR husband do for you for Valentine’s day?”) and I totally get that.  There are always such great sales over President’s day weekend so years ago I told him to seriously bag the Valentine’s day gift or obligatory flowers and just let me pick out one or two things on-line that I’ve been wanting that are on sale.  He shows me how he feels about me every day with so many little things.  I know I’m loved.  :)  He still surprises me every once in a while with a little something, but for the most part.. we are all about no pressure on Valentine’s Day.  I do love buying a little surprise for the kids though.  My mom always did for us when we were little and it made the holiday extra special.  (Thanks mom.. love you.)  :)

Anyway.. I was checking out some of the great sales going on this weekend and quickly realized that some of my favorite things are seriously marked down!  Thought I’d share them with you in case your husband/boyfriend is like mine and wants an easy no pressure Valentine’s day too.  Or in case you just want to treat yourself this year.  :)  Sizes and colors are limited on the shoes/clothes, but hopefully some things will work! How to achieve your goals and a to-do list that works

planning and to-do list collage final
Do you ever have planning sessions?  Just for you?  For your life?  For whatever it is that you’re working on.. to help achieve whatever goals you have?  I never did.  I mean I’ve always been a list person.  And my husband is currently planning our 2017 family vacations before we’ve even been on our 2016 vacations.  (Yes.. he’s that guy.)  So I live with a major planner.  I’ve had planning meetings/sessions for other things – previous jobs, church callings, school volunteer things, etc.  But I’ve never actually had a planning meeting just for me.

Valentine’s tablescape (and organized built-ins!)

formal dining room 1
Is everyone’s week off to a good start?  I had a good Monday!  If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you saw that I had painters in my house today re-painting my master bedroom.  Ahh!  So excited about it.  And so much more to tell!  Coming soon.  But first I need to share my Valentine’s table.  Because I put together a Christmas tablescape and took pictures and then got busy and never posted them.  I do this sort of thing more times than I’d like to admit.  :)

Valentines Day

How to make a Cupcake Valentine Box (and other fun valentine ideas)

how-to-make-a-cupcake-valentine-box-copy
Valentine’s Day creeps up so quickly doesn’t it!?  I feel like I barely get Christmas put away and it’s time to start thinking about Valentine’s day boxes and cards for the kids.  Last year Addison decided just a few days before Valentine’s day that she wanted a cupcake Valentine box.  I decided just a few days before Valentine’s day, after hearing her request, that it would have to be something simple we could throw together with things around the house.  That’s exactly what we did!  Weeks later I looked up Cupcake Valentine boxes on Pinterest and found all sorts of fun ideas and elaborate tutorials.  They were great, but what we pulled together was so quick and easy that I thought I’d share how we did it.  You know.  Just in case any of you also have kids who like to come up with tons of work fun ideas right before a holiday like mine. :)

Organized (and decorated!) mudroom

organized-mudroom-11
Happy February everyone!  Mudroom is decorated for Valentine’s Day!  But before we go any further… quick announcement.  The winner of the Paint and Prose prints from my last Friday Favorite’s post is Lisa who said:

“#ican’teven is my favorite! Oh my how many times I’ve felt that when I’m getting ready to tackle the laundry! :) Love it all Erin! Thanks for introducing us to a cute new shop!”

Congratulations Lisa!  I think we all know the feeling well. :)  E-mail me your info. and Abbie will be in touch soon!

Ok.  I’ve been organizing up a storm and am ready to share more progress with you today.  You all know when I designed my mudroom I decided on closed cabinets to hide the mess.  I absolutely love them and will always be so happy with that decision.  This room for the most part, always looks clean.

Valentine’s decor (and clean drawers!) in the butler’s pantry

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Already half way through the week.  I have been organizing up a storm!  I sometimes get in a grove organizing and don’t want to come up for air.  I have to remind myself to get dressed and eat and take care of my kids and update my blog.  Kidding!  Sort of.  :)  I have about 5 different projects in the works right now and I really need to just focus and finish one thing instead of hopping around so much.  I’m a bit scattered to say the least!  But we are ready for Valentine’s Day so at least there’s that.

I kept some of my red from Christmas and switched things around a bit for Valentine’s Day in the butler’s pantry!  Hanging our heart tissue banner has become a bit of a tradition and my kids love it when I get it out each year.  (You can see how we made the banner here.)

Favorite Things

Friday Favorites

it's-a-10
Happy Friday everyone!  Time for my latest favorite things!  You might remember I mentioned wanting to try the “It’s a 10” hair product my friend recommended at our annual Favorite Things party.  I’ve tried it and have to say I absolutely love it!  Did anyone else try it?  What do you think!?  I am so impressed with this product.  I get out of the shower and towel dry my hair and then immediately put this product on.  Then I comb through my wet hair and I can’t believe how smooth it is!  It really takes out any tangles and controls the frizz.  I still use my favorite Enjoy Straightener after I’ve combed through my hair and I feel like between the two products my hair is so much easier to do and looks shiny and smooth.  So yeah.  “It’s a 10” is now one of my favorite things too. :) Continue reading “Friday Favorites”
