Gift ideas and a great sale!

marble-fireplace
Happy Friday friends!  Whew!  Made it through the week!  This was a busy one.  My kids are off to school and I’m sitting her on my laptop in a quiet (but very messy!) house.  I have a free morning which hasn’t happened in a while and I’m thrilled to just be home with some time to clean, do laundry and catch up!  It’s raining here and is cold and cloudy out.  Love it!  I have Christmas music playing and the fireplace on and even though my to-do list is seriously scaring me (wouldn’t be December without a scary to-do list!) I’m determined to soak in the madness and just enjoy it all before it’s over.

A few things I wanted to share:

Magnolia Lane Christmas Tour

craftsman-tree-porch
Hello friends!  I’m Erin from Sunny Side Up and I’m so excited to be joining in this fun Holiday Open House hosted by sweet Amy and Christi (couldn’t love those two more!). I am a San Diego mom to three who loves home design and decor and is just a tad obsessed with organization!  I also love dutch oven potatoes but that’s a story for a different blog tour. ;)  My husband and I finished building our house and moved in just before Christmas two years ago.  This year was especially fun to decorate because we actually have furniture in the main rooms!  Exciting stuff.  I’ve shared a lot more pictures, details and sources in various blog posts on each room (this is just a peek) so click below each room for more info!

Come in!  So happy to have you over.

Christmas in the kitchen (Warm and Cozy Christmas Home Tour)

Christmas-in-the-kitchen-35

Happy Wednesday friends!  Sharing a bit of Christmas in my kitchen today as part of the Warm & Cozy Christmas Home Tour hosted by my darling friend Jen at Migonis Home blog and Wayfair!  I love adding holiday touches to the kitchen – the place where everyone hangs out the most!  I try not to over do it because our kitchen is trashed and then cleaned up again no short of 367 times a day and I like to keep the surfaces clean.  You know.  For all of that trashing and cleaning. ;)  Just a few things in cupboards and around the perimeter of the kitchen make the space warm and cherry during this happy time of year.

Hello hello friends!  So happy you are here!  If you are stopping by from Sarah’s beautiful home at Thrifty Decor Chick welcome!  I’m joining sweet Chris from Just a Girl for her Christmas one room tour.  What a brilliant idea.  One room!  I can so get behind that. :)

Of course I’m sharing a very special room with you all today.  Why is it special?  Because it’s actually decorated!  One year ago this room was completely empty and my goal was to get it furnished by the end of the year.  Ta-da!  It is!  Mostly.  Well.. almost.  Enough to be special at least. :)

A Holiday with Heart

coastal-planked-ceiling
I’m so excited to be a part of Jennifer’s “A Holiday with Heart” blog hop today!  If you are visiting from Bliss at Home hello and welcome!  When I heard the idea behind this blog hop – to share holiday traditions, stories or decor that is special and has meaning – I had a hard time deciding what to share.  There are so many things throughout our home this time of year that hold a special meaning for me.  I recently shared pictures of our family room decked for the holidays.  This is the room our family spends the most time in and everywhere I look are items that for one reason or another are near and dear to my heart.

Fashion Friday – Sole Society

sole-society-shopping
Happy Friday everyone!  I have a new love in my life.  It’s right up there with white molding, dutch oven potatoes and cherry ice chapstick. :) It’s the website for Sole Society and I am finding so many cute things there lately!  I discovered it months ago when I bought my striped Leighton bag that I shared in my Favorite Things for 2015 post.  When I ordered that bag it didn’t show up for a while.  Some kind of mix up with the shipping.  I called their customer service and they were so kind and helpful and had a new bag to me the next day.  I love good customer service!  And you all know how I feel about that bag (apparently everyone else loved it too because it sold out, but you can find a similar navy striped bag here).  Anyway!  I’ve been wearing a few other fun things from their store and am loving it all!  Really cute stuff, nice quality and great prices.

Focusing on the reason for the season

the-reason-for-the-seasonHappy December friends!  It’s official.  The busiest month of the year is here!  We all know that December can quickly get out of hand.  Don’t get me wrong.  I absolutely love the decorations and the parties and the gift giving and the music and movies and lights and everything else that comes along with celebrating Christmas.  But I also want to make sure that I’m teaching my kids (and focusing on myself!) what is most special about this time of year and why we celebrate Christmas.  This is a simple activity I’m doing with my kids this year to help us with that and I thought I’d share it if any of you would like to do it with your kids too.  I didn’t come up with this but it’s something we’ve done in the past and I’m excited to do it again now that my kids are a little older. Cyber Monday Deals (when retail therapy is needed..)

custom-built-ins
I’m sitting here on my laptop by the cozy lights of our Christmas tree with red eyes and a stack of tissues.  My oldest daughter (11 years old) is heading to 6th grade camp tomorrow.  She will be gone through Friday and aside from leaving her with my parents for quick couple getaways, this is the longest she has ever been away from home and away from me.  She is SO excited.  And I am SO sad!  I put on a brave front for her.  We packed her bags today and I told her how she is going to have a blast and to remember to wear sunscreen when it’s hot and a coat when it’s cold and to make sure she eats (even if it’s food she doesn’t like) and to brush her teeth in the morning and at night and to keep track of her stuff and about 15 other things to remember.  I told her how much I love her and how we will be lost without her (we really will – she is our peacemaker!) and how proud I am of her.  Then I kissed her good night and came downstairs and started to cry.  I quietly sobbed and sniffed on the couch while my husband watched his recorded episode of Survivor until he finally turned to me and said “are you going to be ok?” Continue reading “Cyber Monday Deals (when retail therapy is needed..)”

Our Christmas Tree

decorating-tree
We have a bit of a tree decorating tradition at our house.  For starters we never make it past mid November.  We try.  But the kids and I just get too excited and can’t wait.  So I guess we don’t try too hard.  :)  We all change into our pj’s (usually Christmas pj’s from the year before), we turn on our favorite Christmas with the Chipmunks CD (a fav from my childhood) and then we start decorating.  Then I stand back and watch because it’s fun seeing  my kids so excited.  Then I snap 40 pictures to get one good one.  Then when my 5 year old goes to bed, the girls and I tweak a few things.  Then when the girls go to bed I tweak a few more things.  ;)  Ready to see our tweaked tree in all its glory?
